for fifth career PGA Tour title  Brendan Steele had some unfinished business to attend to in the final round of the Sony Open. After losing this event in a playoff a year ago, Steele entered Sunday’s final round with a two-shot lead and looking to close the deal. Once again, however, Steele leaked too much oil coming into the clubhouse, and once again he failed to pad his PGA Tour win total.
Instead, Kevin Na will leave the 50th state with the title, his fifth career win on the PGA Tour. The final holes at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu turned into a horserace and three other players emerged to challenge Steele. When Steele bogeyed the 14th, he slipped out of the solo lead at 20 under and into a share of the lead at 19 under with Chris Kirk, Na and Webb Simpson.
Na got on a heater on the back nine, running off birdies at Nos. 13, 14 and 15 and making a clutch par putt at No. 17 to keep his chances alive.
“I felt pretty comfortable all day,” Na told Golf Channel after the round. He called this victory validation for his 18 years on Tour. It took 14 for him to claim his first title. He has now won four times in the last two and a half years.
Coming down the 18th, Na shared the lead with Kirk at 20 under. Kirk was already in the clubhouse, and headed out to the range to warm up for a potential playoff. It was not to be, however. After Na flew the 18th green with his second shot, he chipped up to a foot and made the putt for birdie and the win.

Kevin Na(나상욱, 37)wins Sony Open of PGA in coming from behind fashion.
He started 2 strokes behind after 54 holes and had maintained leader group
untill 12th hole, where he made 3 putts bogey to dropping down to 7th place,
but he had made 3 consecutive birdies starting tough 13th hole.
Second shot of 13th hole was momentum builder. He was tough as nail! This win
was his 5th PGA win.
It was nice gesture for him to speak to Korean fans in Korean during postgame
interview. Let's give big hands to the Champion! Kevin! Job well done!

Kevin Na after his win at the 2021 Sony Open in Hawaii,
as Na explains what he has done to get his game in a position to win.
I am happy to see that he's happy at home as well. He didn't forget his Korean root.
He looks confident and relaxed. That's a very good thing for a pro-golfer !!

I think he played PGA Sunday golf like a mature PGA player. Finally
he had shown his maturity. He has had some weird immature routines
earlier in his career. I think it is from the lack of experience in college
golf. Perhaps his wife and family have something to do with it. Man
has to have a woman to grow up. His deadly short putts saved him several
times. I hope he makes the Ryder cup team.
I was impressed by him proudly showing Korean heritage as a Korean American.
It was very American, yet he expressed his Korean connection very nicely.
I wish him a long and rich professional career.

He seemed to be a more mature player yesterday and also showed resiliency
as well as toughness. When he made three putts-bogey at the 12th hole, I thought
his hope of championship was fading away.
However, his 3 consecutive birdies starting 13th hole with a couple of ill-timing
bogeys by the leader, Steele was the key to the outcome of this tournament.

It took 8 years for Kevin Na winning first PGA win (2011)
and 7 years for 2nd win (2018), but he has won 3 wins in the last 3 years. KJ

My wife and I were rooting for Kevin Na.
It was exciting to see him win with a birdie on the last hole.
His game was very sharp, and he was the best player.
His postgame interview both in English and in Korean as usual
was again excellent (속이 시원했어요).
