One impressive thing I felt in Slovenia, Croatia, and Monte Negro (all former Yugoslavia) was
that they all easily gained the freedom that they lost once under the communist regime.
It did take some miserable and inhumane war between them though.
Of course, they were not as fanatic communists as North Korea, Red China, or the Soviet Union.
See, they were civilized people "even before" they went under the communist regime.
There is another proof that they are (and were) civilized is
that even though they split into 3-4 different nations "then", yet they live peacefully together "now".
Did you realize that? How about us? Under the hypocritic Confucianism of China,
we still stay split apart.
They are not like North and South Korea, also Mainland and Formosa China.
A long history of western civilization is the backbone of their unity and peace.
We tend to brag about brilliant and excellent far eastern civilization (mainly Chinese)
in our past but it's all nothing but BS. The east is still far behind the western standards.
Just look at Xi Jinping. He's not a civilized leader.
Just look at the South vs. North Korea and Korea vs, Japan.
We still maintain animosities and remain as nothing but immature kids.
Sorry about my derogatory remarks on my homeland.

Remnants of western Roman Empire and eastern Roman Empire interjected
with Ottoman Empire created localities believe in Catholicism, Eastern Orthodox
and Islam. Politicians manipulated different religious groups on their own interests.
Tito, nationalistic communist put together these different religious regions made
one nation named Yugoslavia. He applied sort of semi capitalism and defied Soviet
satellite system. Free world loved him because it bothered Soviet. After he died
it fell apart because of power hungry politicians stirred up the people who believe
in different religions. Villages with red roof houses in between mountains looked
peaceful and beautiful. But people had to leave their home during the war and there
were many houses empty. Water falls, caves and castles on the sea shore were magnificent.
Understandably, people don’t have much expressions on their faces. They were not smiling
much. It was like in Korea in 1970’s and 80’s. But they were very nice and kind once
you started to talk to them. I stopped by the bookstore and I found the novel, “Walnut Mansion”
ordered on Amazon.

While traveling, whenever the guide was talking about the atrocities and massacres created by
the conflict, I had to think about those happened in Korea after 1945 because of ideologies.
The majority of victims did not know what the hell it was. I am not sure how many leaders and
politicians believed in it. The ideology was merely a tool to advance their interest by manipulating
innocent people. When the country is weak and people lose their nation, all they get is the tragedy
and sad faces. It is true that the public is foolish, but it is also true that there is the government to
protect the people. Recently, the elementary school students were asked which side would they take
if NK and U.S. are engaged into a war. Majority of them answered NK. Aren’t they foolish? But
they surely understood the people in the north also Koreans. Thank god the government did not
lock them up with violation of the security law.

For a better nation and a better life, the people have to pay the terrible price.
It happens and happened all over the world.
Now, how about Korea?
Have Koreans paid enough?
Are there still more tragedies to come and endure?
South Korea and former Yugoslavia seemed to have achieved what they wanted,
but an idiot in South Korea is trying to bring another disaster and another killing field?
God bless Korea.
