PGA: Wyndham Championship - Final Round
More(Reuters) - Im Sung-jae roared into contention at the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta on Saturday and said that while he was trying not to the think about a potential $15 million windfall he had already started making plans on how to spend it.
The 22-year-old South Korean shot a superb six-under-par 64 in the second round at East Lake to sit in second place, one stroke behind leader Dustin Johnson.
The winner from this week's elite 30-player field will be crowned FedExCup champion and take home $15 million.
"I'm aware of the $15 million on the line, but I try not to think about it when I play," Im told reporters.
"It all seems like a dream. Just thinking about it now makes me pretty happy ... I would buy a house in the United States and save so that I can live a comfortable life in the future."
The world number 27 secured his first PGA Tour win at the Honda Classic and finished third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in early March before the COVID-19 shutdown but has not been firing on all cylinders since golf resumed.
"I honestly wasn't feeling confident the last few weeks. I feel like it's all coming back to me now," Im added.
"I haven't been swinging ... like I've been wanting to, ... starting last week though, my swing started to feel a lot better and I was hitting the ball similar to how I was before the quarantine.
"That allowed me to play with more freedom and consistency."

Is Korean men's golf finally and slowly taking over the PGA?
Or have I said too early? I love 임성재.
It looks like he can get it done, whatever it may be.
I believe it because he does have a solid "typical Korean" swing.
His swing is not the American one that is not reliable.
What he does in his swing is what they teach in Korea.
It's an error-proof good swing that we all have to learn.

We will find out today what Im Sung Jae is made of
in contrast to the coolest, number 1 player of the world, Dustin Johnson.
The best Korean males can produce vs the best American Caucasian males can
produce as of today.
We know this match will be only the beginning for Im's golfing career, though.
We all have such high hope for him.

Dustin Johnson shot 64 today with total score -19, and
Sung Jae Im 72 with total -10.
TV commentators including Paul Azinger said Sung Jae someday could become
world's number one like DJ now who is 14 years older.
Sung Jae is the youngest among the players, and I believe he handled himself
very well under pressure. We should be proud of him.
Who knows he may shoot another 64 tomorrow as he did yesterday.
DJ gave him a good lesson today, I hope.

Sungjae, at the age of 22 must have lot of pressure playing with World No. 1 player
as last group. He started slowly (3 bogeys and 1 birdie in front nine), but he had settled
down somwhat in back nine. He ended up 6th place, 9 strokes behind the leader, Dustin Johnson.
I am glad he did not totally collapse after 3 consecutive bogeys in front nine. I am
not sure he would catch the leader on the last day, but he would pick himself up to
top ten after 72nd hole tomorrow, I hope! Good luck! Sungjae! KJ

Sungjae Im finished the tournament with 70(-10 total), No.11,
with prize money 750K.
Kevin Na finished at 27 out of 30.
Obviously, Korean PGA players, not like their LPGA ones, have a long way
to go before they get the recognition their lady pros have been getting.
