My first impression on the first reading was that there's a space that intervenes you and me.
The word "between" creates a feeling of a barrier to keep us from being together or united:
physically, just like the 38 parallel in Korean Peninsula;
or mentally, just like the unhealed wound between Koreans and Japanese.
On further reading, the "between" may mean "beside" rather.
Is it "some extra space or dimension" beside us rather than an intevening space between us?
Anyway, one can not argue with a poem.
Main thing is how I understand.
I think I got it correct. It's a special third space that is beside us
and that we can share together.

The holy space is equal to the spiritual space which is the common pathway to God, our Creator.

Our mind tends to be obsessed with our occupation, or if not, is preoccupied with all sorts of worries,
and forgets the fact that there is a holy, spiritual space from where we can look at ourselves and other
creations as our creator, God, would, and we can pray or talk to Him and
develop a spiritual and true community with other human beings.

Think of the words, "occupation and preoccupation" literally for a second.
Occupation means our job, our profession, which literally occupies our daily life.
Preoccupation is being preoccupied with all kinds of things we are going to do.
So our life is indeed pretty much filled with occupation and preoccupation.
Yet beyond occupation and preoccupation, there is an important dimension, life, spiritual world,
which we so often forgets, yet controls and showes the way to the world we live in.
If only we humans or earthlings can develop world-wide spiritual community on Earth,
only then we will see the peace on Earth.
