OCALA – An albatross and a win. All in two weeks work for Ha Na Jang. Sunday, Jang capped off a thrilling two weeks of golf with the same flare and enthusiasm that has come to define the young Korean. With a birdie at the last, punctuated by a fist pump reminiscent of Chi Chi Rodriguez, Jang became a first time winner on the LPGA Tour, going wire-to-wire to capture the Coates Golf Championship Presented by R+L Carriers just one year after finishing in a tie for second at this same event last year. She made history just last week, holing her tee shot at the par 4, 8th hole for the first albatross in the history of the LPGA Tour at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic. Jang survived a long, cold and rainy week that had players at the course from sunrise to sunset, playing catch up after severe weather wiped out most of the day’s play on Thursday. She got off to a hot start on Thursday, carding a bogey free 7-under, 65 to take a three-stroke lead. She was caught by world No.1 Lydia Ko who held a share of the lead the rest of the way, until Ko stumbled during Saturday’s final round, carding five bogeys and a double to quickly fall out of contention. Ko battled back with four birdies on her last four holes to climb back into a share of third at 8-under par.Canada’s Brooke Henderson held the outright lead throughout the day, climbing to 11-under par before dropping two shots at the 14th and 17th holes to finish just one-stroke shy of a playoff. Many peoples thought rookie class of last year was one of the best.
That seems to be getting more truthful at the juncture of 2nd tournament this year.
Hyojoo Kim won last week and Ha Na Jang this week and both were rookie class last year.
They denied there were such a thing as 'Sophomore Jinx"!
This is first win for Ha Na after 4 runner ups since last year.
Ha Na Jang is outgoing and aggressive player and bubbly as ever!
I am extremely happy for her and let us give big hands for her! KJ
