창문 밖으로 펼쳐지는 대자연속으로 빠져들다 보니 어느사이에 Jasper national Park에서 50 mi. 정도 떨어진 Hinton이 조그마한 town에 도착하였다. Hinton에서 하루밤을 지내고 다음날 아침일찍 Athabsca Fall을 보러 Jasper National Park로 향했다. Guide, 김반장은( 이름은 James Kim 인데 학교에 다닐적에 반장을 한번도 해본적이 없어서, 김반장이라고 불러주기를 원한다고... 우리모두 폭소를 보내고 그렇게 불렀다.) Candian Rockies는 기후의 변화가 심하고 언제 비가 올런지 모르니 비옷, 우산, 겨울 jacket을 항상 준비하라고 몇번씩 강조를 하였다. 날씨는 변덕스럽게 가랑비가 왔다갔다 하였지만, 우리는 대자연의 아름다움을 마음껏 즐겼다.
    Athabasca Fall은 Athabasca River 상류에 있는 Jasper National Park에 있는 폭포이다. 이폭포는
Canadian Rockies 있는 폭포중에서 most powerful한 폭포라고 하는데, 폭포소리가 웅장하였다. 해가 있었으면 아름답게 떠오른 무지개도 볼 수 있었을텐데...       The Columbia Icefields is a massive icefield along the Continental Divide. It covers 325 km² in area, is 100 to 365 metres (328 to 1,197 ft) in depth and receives up to seven metres (275 in) of snowfall per year. Its meltwaters flow into three oceans, the Arctic Ocean to the north, Hudson Bay to the east (Atlantic Ocean) and south and west to the Pacific Ocean.

Icefield 들이 rapidly receding 한다고 합니다.
Jasper 에서 Banff 까지 Icefield Parkway (93) 는 잊을 수 없는 아름다운 scenic route
였습니다.
fresh air 많이 들어 마시고 눈도 호강을 하고왔습니다.
여름 휴양지로는 Canadian Rockies 가 가장 좋은곳 이라고 생각합니다.

사진만 보아도 시원합니다.
우리도 이제 아이들이 제법들 커서
내년 가족휴가를 카나디안 롴키로 결정했는데
지금부터 걸 기대하고 있어요.
두분, 여전히 건강하고 활기가 넘쳐서 반갑습니다.

The Columbia Glacier (Icefield) seems to have gotten even more smaller
than what it was when we visited it about 25 years ago.
It must have retreated to the higher ground.
Canadian Rockies is one of the nicest places to visit.
The Banff-Jaster highway is a world class scenic route.
We drove it once in summer and once in winter.
Looking at the pictures, I can feel the cool and snappy fresh air of the Canadian Rockies.
