The Pocono State Park and


the Bushkill Falls, the Niagara of Pennsylvania

지난 7월 독립기념일 다음날, Southampton, Long Island로 가는 길에

Pennsylvania의 Pocono Mountain Resort에서 사흘간 쉬면서

아름다운 산속의 경치를 즐기며 한가로운 일정으로 하이킹을 즐겼습니다.

산속을 걸으며 여기 저기 피어 있는 들꽃이며 들판을 이불처럼 덮고 있는

고사리밭을 지나며, 계곡을 뚫고 흐르는 맑은 시냇물에 손도 담구어보면서

어릴적 뒷동산을 뛰놀던 추억을 회상하는 평화로운 산책길이였습니다.

펜실베니아의 나이야가라라고 자부하는 Bushkill Falls에서는

폭포 주위로 잘 다듬어 놓은 디딤돌 층계며 나무계단을 따라 나무로

Safety rail로 둘러 쌓여 있어 다소 인공적인 공원이라는 느낌이

있으면서도 우거진 나뭇잎이 카누피를 이룬 사이로 바위를 뚫고 세차게

흐르는 물소리와 이름 모를 새들의 지저귐 속에서 진초록에 물드는 듯한

한나절을 즐기니 신선이 따로 있을소냐 하리만치 흥겨웠습니다.

집으로 돌아 오는 길에도 산속의 전원을 내려다 보는 조촐한 동네의

a room with a view에서 산속의 향기를 흠뻑 마시고 왔습니다.
