Gettin’ together to smile an’ rejoice,
An’ eatin’ an’ laughin’ with folks of your choice;
An’ kissin’ the girls an’ declarin’ that they
Are growin’ more beautiful day after day;
Chattin’ an’ braggin’ a bit with the men,
Buildin’ the old family circle again;
Livin’ the wholesome an’ old-fashioned cheer,
Just for awhile at the end of the year.
Greetings fly fast as we crowd through the door
And under the old roof we gather once more
Just as we did when the youngsters were small;
Mother’s a little bit grayer, that’s all.
Father’s a little bit older, but still
Ready to romp an’ to laugh with a will.
Here we are back at the table again
Tellin’ our stories as women an’ men.
Bowed are our heads for a moment in prayer;
Oh, but we’re grateful an’ glad to be there.
Home from the east land an’ home from the west,
Home with the folks that are dearest an’ best.
Out of the sham of the cities afar
We’ve come for a time to be just what we are.
Here we can talk of ourselves an’ be frank,
Forgettin’ position an’ station an’ rank.
Give me the end of the year an’ its fun
When most of the plannin’ an’ toilin’ is done;
Bring all the wanderers home to the nest,
Let me sit down with the ones I love best,
Hear the old voices still ringin’ with song,
See the old faces unblemished by wrong,
See the old table with all of its chairs
An’ I’ll put soul in my Thanksgivin’ prayers.

What a heart-warming poem it is!
We just enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner last night,
and all 10 members of our family gathered around the dinner table.
This time of the year our trip to Jim’s Hampton house was not without unexpected difficulties:
First, the simplest and very short trip from Rochester airport to the La Guardia at New York on Nov 16
at 1:39 pm was met with the record-breaking snowstorm with overnight snow accumulation of
8 to 12 inches during the night of 15th to the early morning of 16th!
Therefore we wisely changed our driving plan from home to the airport departing our home 4 hours prior to
the boarding time to check-in at an airport hotel with shuttle service from the afternoon of the 15th to
mid-morning of 16th, despite some delay we were able to arrive at the La Guardia in the evening, and then to Jim’s Chelsea apt.
Second: Finally all of us moved to the Hampton house the 20th, and seven of us leisurely went out for hamburger lunches at the downtown eatery, enjoyed and returned home, while my wife and two daughters-in-law were prepping Thanksgiving dinner the next day.
Upon entering the house, I was met with my wife who said another unexpected news from ADT, the security company, and the house alarm
went off just now, and even the company couldn’t turn it off.
At first, I didn’t know what to do, except reporting the local police and informing a neighbor to check any evidence of break-In.
They reported that there was no sign of a break-in, and possibly it could be triggered by an electrical malfunctions?! And the wayward alarm will automatically be turned off in 5 minutes.
When we return home, I will just turn it off and then contact ADT for thorough check and service as needed.
Afterward we had serene and peaceful Thanksgiving tonight.
Have a happy thanksgiving to all good members.

Hi, Doc;
It could have been the Santa who came a bit too early this year to have agitated the ADT alarm.
Please check under the Christmas tree if there is anything left by him. ㅎ, ㅎ, ㅎ.

Some years ago the same thing happened in my Michigan home.
In the middle of night the burglar alarm went off.
This happened, I believe, three times.
I had the technician checked the system thoroughly and couldn't find
anything wrong.
The technician told me that he noted mice excretions or dung
and suggested to put mouse traps because he knows mice sometimes
chew or gnaw at the wires, which can trigger the alarm to go off.
Indeed that was the answer. No more recurrence for some 10 yrs
since I got rid of mice. So 선배님, you may check it out.

Thanks for your constructive suggestions, WM and Dr. 이.
I agree with the theory of Santa, who has been hopelessly aged and senile so much so that
he has been totally disoriented as to the time frame, dumping 10 ft snow prematurely,
and hopefully having exhausted the reserve for the rest of winter,
As to the mouse theory, I have some reservations.
The only time I’ve seen any, was when we entered this brand new house, and found a dead one in the garage floor.
We have some living things such as squirrels, chipmunks, occasional hares, and even small snakes, ah ha,
even alley cats, with our background of such rich populations, but field mice haven’t been seen yet.
If the service man doesn’t find any answer, I will raise this possibility of mice.
Thanks again.

Hope. “ everybody was able to romp and laugh with a will , as a father a little older
Back at the table again
Telling our stories as women and men”
Happy holidays!

This is somewhat belated Thanksgiving Greetings from us!
We are gathering of our annual Thanksgiving family reunion at Upstate NY,
where my daughter's lake house located. This year is my daughter's turn to
hosting event and these are consisted of two families with few guests,total
23 of us.
Unfortunately my brother-in-law and his wife could not make due to their ages,
distance of trip and esp. cold weather.but our tradition is going on continuesly.
Weather was exceptionally cold this year and we could not do usual our outdoor
activities together,but group's spirits were high as ever.
The dinner was excellent and Mom was prepared Korean dishes to the group couple
of times. They loved Korean foods including my grandkids.
Since we could not do too much outdoor activities,we have enjoyed plenty of football
games and Karaoke,which we bought from recent Korean trip. It is amazing everyone of
us are enjoying throghout 3 generations including youngest one,Kai and Lou.
It has been nice Thanksgiving family gathering again and we will watch 'The Game,
U of M vs OSU noon today together and we will be adjourned till next year!
Happy Thanksgiving! Everyone! KJ

Thanks you guys and Happy Thanksgivings!
Our family Thanksgiving gathering was initiated
by 1st generation many years ago and 2nd generation
took over recently.
They have been doing well and it is nice to see them
getting along together well and hopefully it goes this
way many years to come.
Thanks for your nice comments! KJ

Good news is that our old generation is replaced by younger new generations, family member is on the increase.
At the beginning my wife and I, just two of us, arrived here with only one baggage.
Now a half century later, family has increased to ten members;
two of us, two sons, two daughter-in-laws, and four grandchildren, rendering a large house fully crowded.
A great achievement? Sure it is, considering my background of being a sole son(외아들) under aging parents

I agree with you! Sunbaenim!
Our 2nd generations are at age of 40s-50s,
which are active age.
Since they took over running our family gathering,
it became more energetic and innovative.
They were growing up closely and after they got
married and had family,new members including spouses
and kids joining the tradition wholeheartedly!
I hope this would go successfully as now for many
years to come.
Thanks for your comments! Sunbaenim! KJ
