Cowboy가 영어 사전에 나타난것은 1725년 으로 Vaquero를 영어로 번역한것입니다. 말을 타고 cattle을 다루던 사람입니다.1848년 Mexican-American 전쟁이후 English와  Spanish 전통이 융화 되어 American culture인 Cowboy가 탄생햇읍니다.

Cowboy의  spanish 영향은 매우 커서 medieval spain때의 Iberian peninsular의 system
이 America 에 들어와 두지방이 비슷한 기후로 Dry climate 이고 풀이 작아 매우 큰 땅이 필요 해서 cowboy 가 걸어서는 할수없어 말을 타야 햇고 America 는 pre-historic  때 부터
말이 멸종해서 말을 spain 에서 16 세기 때 들여 와야 햇고 spain의 말은 Islamic  지배하에 있을때 의 영향으로 그들이 쓰던 Oriental 종자 입니다.수입된 America 말은 곳 숫자가 많아지고 나중에는 America 종자도 생것답니다.

Texas에 English 게통의 Settler가 들어온 것은 1821년이나 1848년의 Mexican-American 전쟁이후 그리고 기차가 들어오고 또 American civil war로 소 고기의 수요가
많아져 많은 사람들이 들어오고 Cattle ranch 를 Texas 에서 California까지 확대 햇읍니다.

이때 말타는 재주와 소를 다루는 재주를 발전시켜 Rodeo Cowboy가 탄생햇읍니다.
1860년 American-civil war가 끗난후 많은 Union과 Confederacy의 군인이 일할 자리를 구하러 왓읍니다.백인들  ,indian,Mexican.Black이 모두 Cowboy가 돼엇읍니다.

힘든일을 하던 Cowboy의 Image는 Frontier정신과 Victorian chivalry의 가치로
Self  dependance 그리고 정직하고 Individualism에 가치를 두는 노래와 시가 많읍니다.
