It is a very interesting article , not only for constipation issues but also potential implication of
incidences of other colorectal diseases, cancers, etc. After all , old old style "oriental toilets", which mandates "squatting position"
,i.e. easier, more complete evacuation ,might be better than modern wetsern toilet.(서양 변기).
It appears that this paper was presented at the recent AC of Gastroenterology meeting as a poster form.
Thank you for posting a interesting paper.
After all, Koreans had much lower incidence of colorectal cancer, and inflammatory bowel
disease, in old days, when they used old style oriental toilet. In addition to dietary changes, this kind of life style changes
such as western style toilet bowls might have been another factor for recent increase in colon cancer,(Last year, colon cancer moratality
surpassed stomach cancer mortality in Korea.)

Thank you, Dr. Choh, for your valuable comment.
When I googled the subject and the word of Squatty Potty, I was surprised to find
so much discussion going on on this topic. On my second thought it is not surprising
when you realize millions of people, young and old, suffer a varying difficulty with
bm one time or another.
It appears there is an anatomical and physiological reason why squatting is more natural
than sitting based upon what I have read so far on line.
7 inch elevation is recommended for a starter, but 9 in elevation is said to be
most efficient.
Constipation is an big issue especially for the elderly.
If you google Squatty Potty which provided the device for the study,
you will find multiple devices.
Unfortunately this article does not show the picture of the device, and
the full article is not accessible on line at this time when I tried to.
