What is clear is that “breakthrough” cases are not the rare events the term implies. As of 15 August, 514 Israelis were hospitalized with severe or critical COVID-19, a 31% increase from just 4 days earlier. Of the 514, 59% were fully vaccinated. Of the vaccinated, 87% were 60 or older. “There are so many breakthrough infections that they dominate and most of the hospitalized patients are actually vaccinated,” says Uri Shalit, a bioinformatician at the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) who has consulted on COVID-19 for the government. “One of the big stories from Israel [is]: ‘Vaccines work, but not well enough.’”
*US should start booster injections to 60 year or older population
5 month after the second dose. 8 month is too late for older age
group if you look at what happened in Israel. Biden is considering
earlier than 8 month booster shot after he met Israeli prime minister.

I am not sure why it is so much different from what I hear in US, but
there are incidences where surprisingly high rate of breakthrough infections
like in Provincetown in Cape Code, Mass. I don't remember exactly where
but there are few others. Several friends of my daughter's got together and had
a good time. They were all vaccinated but all got infected. Surge of delta varient
happened in July and August in US. I am afraid major contributing factor
is waning immunity of people who were vaccinated in Feb. and March..
If it is true it may get worse.

This bad news from Israel is all specifically related to Pfizer vaccine, I believe.
wonder about Moderna vaccine whose efficacy is said to last longer.
There was no comment on Moderna vaccine.
As far as I can guess, in USA some 50% of the vaccinated people got Moderna,
which I believe could explain part of the difference between Israel and USA.
Something might have been wrong in the vaccine itself, such as poor refrigeration,
the wrong kind of vaccine, poor genetics of Israelites, or poor delivery technique.
The statistics in America are much different as you know by now.
Why is the breakthrough rate so high in Israel? It just doesn't make much sense.
Most likely, their system of vaccine delivery might have been defective.
Possibly a lot of them got the deactivated or corrupt vaccine.
Anyway, keep the vaccination going at full speed except for the damn republican idiots.
We can live very well without those morons.
