Orthohantaviruses (or hantaviruses) are single-stranded, enveloped, negative-sense RNA viruses in the Hantaviridae family of the order Bunyavirales, which normally infect rodents where they do not cause disease.[1] Humans may become infected with hantaviruses through contact with rodent urine, saliva, or feces. Some strains cause potentially fatal diseases in humans, such as hantavirus hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), also known as hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS),[2]while others have not been associated with known human disease.[3] HPS (HCPS) is a "rare respiratory illness associated with the inhalation of aerosolized rodent excreta (urine and feces) contaminated by hantavirus particles."[2]

Human infections of hantaviruses have almost entirely been linked to human contact with rodent excrement; in 2005 human-to-human transmission of the Andes virus was reported in South America.[3]
Hantavirus is named for the Hantan River area in South Korea where an early outbreak was observed, and was isolated in 1976 by Karl M. Johnson and Ho-Wang Lee.(from Internet)

Really enjoyed reading your reminiscing your moonlightening story as an assistant to Professor Lee.
Our class missed any formal contact or lecture by him during our school years.
However, I had heard enough of him only because one of my best high school friends and classmates,
Chil-Yong Kang, PhD, professor at University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada,
happens to be an internationally well known virologist, a good friend of Professor Lee, who gets the credit
for doing DNA sequencing of Hantaan virus.
Thank you, Dr. Choh, for sharing your memorable story.

Several years ago, E.H. Fever was spreading in Yosemite Park
not far from where I live. I was so excited that I was proudly talking
about my med school professor 이호왕 and Hantaan virus to the
people in the OR.
Unfortunately, he was the target of the jealousy. His Land Rover made in
Britian and putting practice carpet in his office were the talk of the town.
There were hardly any praises on his work.
