One of the iconic pop-musicians,singer, actor David Bowie passed away
on January 10th,after 18 months long battle with a liver cancer.

  His career spanned from “Space Oddity” released nine days
 before touch down of the “Appolo 11“in the“ Sea of Tranquility,
in“1969 until his recent death and the last album, "Black Star”,
which was released on January 8th, just two days before the sudden
announcement of his death.

  He had huge followers from  England,Europe and America and
 his  music,garment,futuristic make ups on the stage, other
 experimentation  impacted not only young audience but also
got  genuine respects from different  genre of artists,rockers,
theatres, movies, even modern classic musicians such as Phillip Glass
 who composed two symphonies as a tribute to D.B. several years ago.

  Like many great modern arts and artists, many of his music/performance
 were shocking, and futuristic, especially for us, Asians,
 who were educated and grew up in the rigid, school-uniform culture. 

  And yet his music and performance  were also reflection of 70's-80's,
 we‘ve lived through, the age of space exploration, sexual revolution,
 feminist movement,gay rights,etc.

  I was originally attracted to his performance in mid 70's,
 including shocking musics,costumes and lyrics in the song "Space Oddity"
 and theatre  production of  the famous“Elephant man",a play,based on
A Surgeon’s Memoir about a young English patient  with neurofibromatosis. 

 After initial shock of his stage makeup and costume,implication
 of the lyrics would grow on you.

   In Space Oddity,the isolated astronaut,losing  any connection
 to the earth, looks down the earth,and  saw "Planet Earth is blue
and there is nothing I can do " and Bowie said "Tell my wife I love her
 very much, she knows."

  The unexpected announcement of his death, his fight with cancer,
the release of his last album “Black Star" including the 
top-charting track“Lazarus,just  two days before  his death, were,
all in all, just  Bowie-like performance and an experimentation until
 the very end.

  Listening to the lyrics of “Lazarus* in You tube for the first time
 this week end,I must say this probably  was a poignant choreographing
of his own death by a respected artist,who was a prolific reader,as well.

  “I'll be free-ain't that just like me?” D.B. said in the song "Lazarus".
