At least King SaeJong sponsored/encouraged 집현전 scholars to organize 언문/한글 so that he certainly deserved for the credit. Indeed, I always insist 한글 is the greatest invention the Korean race ever contributed to civilization. Indeed, my mother spent her whole life to collect forgotten or rather neglected records/stories among the women folks, all written in 언문, and published through 내방가사 - by the help/instruction by Dr. Ohn, I looked through Korean Google lately for the first time and amazed to see my mother, 조애영's works/contribution including her 시조집 - were all properly documented. Indeed, without 언문, such works by the women through the Yi Dynasty period would have NOT been possible. So such criticism '한글은 조선백성과 나라의 장래에 전혀 영향을 끼치지 못했다' is baseless, I totally disagree, no Sir!
Anyhow I have one very amusing “전라도 훈민정음” - believe me, I am NOT sarcastic but I genuinely enjoy such musical 전라도 dialect which is the opposite to 경상도 dialect- so that I would like to share with you, hoping I do NOT offend any since it is one of the epitomes for 언문 as I know of! Enjoy it!

The Last Class by Alphonse Daudet의 글이 생각난다.

The short story of "Vive la France" was a part of our English study during my high school days.
I still remember about the area of "Alsace & Lorraine" where the story was based.
As you all said, 한글 was meant to be a phonetic language from the very beginning.
This is really stupid and bad.
For example,
For God's sake, we want to write the way we feel-like and the way it sounds.
What the stupid hell, we have to write exactly according to the "철자법"
instead of how the speech sounds and how we hear.
As I have said many times in our (and other) website, the "철자법" should be removed.
Now, even a college professor is afraid to write in worry of making mistake in Korean spelling.
This is totally "in reverse" of what 세종대왕 intended by making 한글 more difficult to use.
A lot of guys mistakenly think that there are no spellings in Korean.
I like to tell these idiots that, according to the "철자법", there are strict rules of spelling!!
I do make corrections in "your" (website members) English writings all the time
because spellings and grammar should be correct in English.
But I do not correct any "Korean writings" because it is supposed to be a phonetic language,
and, therefore, there can not be any misspellings (to me) in 한글 writings. Just let it be as it is.
If anyone of you doubts that there are spelling rules in Korean, please let me know.
I will explain it but it will take a long lesson for these idiots to be convinced.

I agree with John in that 한글 was created by someone other than the great King of Yi-Dynasty.
The king was so busy having sex with his concubines that I doubt he could ever have time to sit down
and create a new language. Also, the kings of the Yi Dynasty were not smart enough to create 한글.
They were the stupidest kings we ever had during our 반만년 history.
Suppose if I had, at my free disposal, a houseful of pretty women who badly wanted to get pregnant
with my child, I would not have had any time to do anything else other than "the great fun things".
Even if I had the fresh new edition of 한글 in my hands, I probably would let it decayed
under the table. I would never have fought against the stupid and stubborn
Then, the 한글 would never have seen the light of the day.
It was a very fortunate thing that the king was there instead of me.
BTW, I tried my best not to use any vulgar and profane words and phrases here.
It was "the greatest thing" that, between his sexual pleasures, 세종대왕 introduced
the existence of 한글 and told the ignorant people to use it to bypass the Chinese letters
and express themselves in writing about their life according to how they sounded.
Without him, the creation by a monk would never have been known or popularized
in the land of the morning calm !!
I am very grateful for that and I would say he's the father of the Korean 한글.
Someone says 한글 had not been popularized but, actually, it was very popular
among the common people at the end of Yi Dynasty.

The Last Class by Alphonse Daudet, KwanHo quoted, reminds me of such beautiful Alsace Wine Route, from Strasbourg in the north to Colmar in the south, I am sure many of you had a chance to enjoy while visiting Strasbourg.
Indeed, along the Xmas holidays, the Alsace-Lorraine region is so popular among French that even I was persuaded by my nephew in law who happened to be Swiss French to spend some time at Strasbourg for the holidays and wandered around, thinking all those stories of ‘The Last Class’- I have one copy so that I will attach it in case anyone would like to read it again!-.
Anyhow, to me, the whole area of Alsace-Lorraine including nearby Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, the most beautiful castle around Strasbourg, was virtually German in every way I looked at; their culture and further, even the food was 100% German to have disappointed me. Indeed, not only by the appearance as fairytale towns lined with cobblestoned streets but also such colorful, half-timbered buildings with the street signs in German terms made me feel like I am at one of the German towns like nearby Freiburg right across Rheine, except, thank goodness, such famous world-class white wines they produce.
So, Alsace-Lorraine is now a part of France but hardly feel like French at all and also reminded me of one funny story I heard from my close friend, Prof Hugo Partsch of Vienna about his colleague, the late Prof. Stemmer R who was an Alsatian and drafted to serve as a German army during WWII but receive the military compensation from the French government.
