If someone in Korea criticized America, he or she would easily be labeled as a communist.
It is called "red scare". Victims of the American bombing during the Korean War had been
scared to talk about it for years. Today red scare became an old man's rhetoric.
Movies like Inchon Landing contains a lot of American propaganda that
Korean government followed blindly as much as the Chinese movie "장진호" does.
Inchon Landing was done after 인민군 was decimated in Busan perimeter.
American bombing from air and sea cut off most of Inmingun's supply lines including
manpower. Inmingun did not have an effective Navy and Air Force. US-owned air and sea.
저우엔라이 knew the US would carry out Inchon Landing at the beginning of the war
and advised Kim "you would need 100,000 troops to defend Inchon. If you
don't have it, run to the north." So Inmingun did.
The US chased them to Chungchun river and 장진호 where Chinese troops were waiting.
It was a shameful crushing defeat for the US who had far superior firepower to the Chinese.
US retreated beyond 38 parallel and gave up Seoul to the Chinese. Mao declared Republic
of China on Oct. 1, 1949. 장개석 ran to Taiwan. ROC did not have anything. She was one
of the poorest countries in the world. And She went through 100 years of humiliation
by European countries and Japan. In a year China defeated the US, the strongest country
in the world. It boosted their pride greatly. Perhaps the Chinese victory in 장진호 exerted
far greater influence on the Chinese than Inchon landing operation did on Korea.
I am sure the aura of McArthur's heroic Inchon Landing Operation will fade away as time goes.
"Never die, never die, Old soldiers never die, They simply fade away. ... In the United States,
the phrase was used by General Douglas MacArthur in his April 19, 1951 farewell address
to the U.S. Congress (which has become known as the "Old Soldiers Never Die" speech):"
