Was the person one of the Underwoods who gave us ECFMG test at Yonsei University in 1964?
The examiner, whoever it was, used 100% English in explaining the test procedure.
Sitting at the exam table and listening to him, I thought he was damn arrogant in having done that.
We were being tested for medical knowledge, not English proficiency.
Sorry for being getting out of the tract from the main theme of this story
but, out of nowhere, this long-forgotten piece of unhappy memory came to me.
The "arrogance" of the missionaries onto the people of underdeveloped nations must have been very common.
I still wonder if the missions were out of their true conviction to help poor people
or just to satisfy their ego. Even today, Korean missionaries to poor countries seem to be very siimilar.

I remember him too.
He was the grandson of the original Underwood.
who died in 1916 at the age of 57.
The name of the grandson was Horace Grant Underwood II.
He was the proctor of our ECFMG examination in October of 1964.
(Thank you, Dr. Ohn, for correcting my error. See below more about him)

(Horrace Grant Underwood II, Panmunjum Interpreter)
He must have been Horace Grant Underwood II who was an interpreter during Korean war armistice
negotiation. He is grandson of original Underwood. In the above video, he was called as Horrace E.
Underwood, but it was found to be wrong. Can you remember his face in the video?

Thanks all !
In video, Horace E. (Grant?) Underwood II said he was born in Korea (not England).
He looked very friendly and nice even though I didn't feel like that in 1964.
Well... obviously I was in a stress then even though I was lucky enough to pass the exam.
There's no way I could have remembered his face then.
It was 53 years ago but
I can hardly believe how I ended up where and how I am now !!
I guess it doesn't really matter now whether he was Horace E. or Horace G.
It will be just a forgotten chapter of our tumultuous past.
Thank you so much, Dr. Ohn, for putting this documentary on our page.
Feeling the love God has for Korea and her people made my tears come out
out of the long-dried out tear duct.
However, you and I know this documentary is only one of numerous miracles
HE has demonstrated in HIS mysterious ways in recent Korean history
which have been transforming our motherland to this date.
This reminds me of all the martyres and their stories the early Catholic Church
of Korea had to endure.
