As we get older, we all like to sit more hours.
This study indicates exercise alone is not enough.
You need to stand around more and avoid prolonged sitting.
There have been a few epidemiological population studies in the past
showing that sitting longer than 8 hours a day brings on the greater mortality,
for example.
I used to tell my elderly patients to get up every half an hour
to move around instead of sitting hours watching TV or reading.
I also used to tell them that it is a 24 hours a day battle against Earth gravity
which we all earthlings eventually will lose in the end so that
if you want to stay above the grass as golfers often say, we need to stand up,
get up, and move around to fight the gravity as much as possible.
For those who have to use wheelchair, I used to say I wish I could send you
to the moon where the gravity is only 16.6% of the earth, and you could walk again.
Nowadays I try to practice what I used to preach and
find it hard to follow my own prescription.
