Coronavirus
More than 700,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed across the globe, including nearly 140,000 in the US. That's more cases than any other country. The nation's top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said based on models, the US could see millions of cases and 100,000 or more deaths before this is all over. The CDC and state governments have taken drastic measures in response to the growing threat, including domestic travel advisories in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and highway checkpoints in Florida and other states. President Trump even reportedly considered a citywide quarantine for the hard-hit New York City metro area, but the state's Gov. Andrew Cuomo said such a drastic measure would be chaotic and possibly illegal. Half a world away in Moscow, a citywide quarantine just began today. While social distancing is the preferred measure of fighting the disease, the concern is growing for places like India's densely populated slums, where social distancing is not a possibility. "On COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019), or SARS-COV-2);
Whatever you are, how in God’s name, you such a tiny invisible creature you are having such a gigantic apocalyptic power? You’re bringing the whole world upside down. Despite all those frontline men and women’s weariless efforts, served as sacrifices, the number of souls who are vanishing from these soils is rapidly rising days and weeks on end. Today I hear that some epidemiologists are predicting that the death tolls may crest over to two million in the US and several million globally. Considering those numbers coming out of China and Japan are undoubtedly doctored, those ‘two million’ number may really become the reality. It is much too scary and it nearly parallels with the Holocaust in early 1940’s. What we have now may even be called ‘mini-Holocaust’ much to our sorrow. I certainly do not mean to dwarf the sufferings of those six million Jewish people who vanished during that evil times in history. Those Jews died of mass gassing with cyanide and carbon monoxide, and these Corona viruses take away our precious gas called ‘Oxygen’ from us, whether you are Jews or gentile, whether you are black, white, or brown, whether you are young or old and whether you are straight or homosexuals. Is this the God’s way of punishing us who have heaps of haughtiness and conceit, not to mention the uncountable sins we have. I know those to be forever ephemeral. Is this the beginning of eternal standstill of human lives or is this an augur from God for the betterment of mankind. If it’s the latter, I shall gladly take it.
Heretofore, my mind has never been so pervious to such a heightened sense of fear, fear of death and much fear to the ‘Terra incognita’ that we are about to travel. To be honest, I’m scared to go out and equally scared to hear the telephone ringings. Color me embarrassed, if you will.
I’m sounding like one defeatist’s soliloquy, amirite?
Penny for your thoughts." ......Joe Yun(69)

Hi Dr. Lee,
Awfully nice to hear from you. I wasn’t sure if it was worth staging it on the snuma.net bulletin. I feel better humbling my importance and my writings. But I thank you anyway.
This morning I rose to a typical Michigan sunless sky and have managed to brave myself to take a walk. Out of the house, I went on to Club drive then on to the Square Lake drive where I couldn’t notice a single soul passing by. I know full well the whole world is off-kilter and it’s difficult to find even merest liveliness among us. A few squirrels and a few birds are busy moving around, foraging for foods they have been missing during their long winter hiatus. They seemed quite chirpy and seemed completely oblivious to their co-habitants who are under the looming and present onslaught of this Coronaviridae. The feelings of aloneness, even remoteness and not knowing what would betides us, that is really an eerie feeling. I was speaking to myself ‘this must be what they are calling lonely planet’.
I better get back home!
Thanks again and take care.
*Of note, this above reply from Dr. Yun transferred from the Michigan alumni group Kaotalk.

Out of the group Kaotalk of Michigan alumni, I happened to read this morning
the monologue by my old friend, Dr. Joe Yun(69), which describes our dark
depressive emotion eloquently consistent with today's more bad news by CNN.
With his permission, I'm putting it on this page.
