Congratulations!

Darn it, I missed that wonderful opportunity to witness
and celebrate our good friend Dr. Jay Chang's retirement party.

Jay, you were such a warm hearted, brainy scholarly professor I always admired.
It was fortunate for me to meet you at Chongju Elementary School after the Korean war.
I remember you a very shy country boy but very bright and intelligent even then.
We met again at our medical school class which did not surprise me remembering what a bright boy you were.
We met again in Ohio as practicing physicians!
Somehow I followed you to sunny southern California as we near the retirement age.

We are sorry that we could not be at your retirement ceremony in person.
Good to see the pictures of your family and grand children whom we have not met yet.
We sincerely congratulate you on your retirement from such a distinguished career.
Lets hope we can enjoy our happy and healthy retirement life together.

Congratulations on your retirement and your illustrious career, Professor Chang !
You are certainly the pride of our alma mater and our class of 65.
Our lives crossed each other on more than a few occasions, some of which were at critical crossroads in our lives,
which have given me the privilege to some fond memories in looking back.

Sukjoo and I wish you and Mrs. all the bests in your retirement.

Thank you all:

My dear classmates, friends and our alumni, accepting me to the club of retirement
after a life-long years of medicine with the expression of kind words and friendship.

No doubt our lives have been crossed many times each other in over 45 years,
and we have come where we are now.
I am certain that there will be more of them in our harvesting years.
Dear friends of ours living in this sunny and beautiful Southern California
look forward to seeing our medical school classmates and alumni when you visit this area.  

At the tender young age, we left Korea with  mixed feelings of hope and desire,
fear and uncertainty, but we have been able to adjust
and settle in this adapted country America for the better.
We have loved our lives, our profession, our freedom,
and our contributions to humanity in so many ways.

Finally, in retirement, I feel it is the time we should spend the remaining years
with family and our dear friends more than anything else,
and enjoy the fruits of hard works of our lifetime.

의대 졸업후 한번도 만날 기회가 없어서 형의 소식을 몰랐으나
이번에 은퇴를 하신다니 진심으로 축하를 드립니다.
우리 동기중에도 또 한 분이 우리 학교의 이름을 빛내고 명예로운
은퇴를 하신다니 자랑스럽기만 합니다.

규정 형과 광호형께,

규정 형도 만나 본지 오래 되었지만, 광호 형은 정말 뜻밖에 만나는 글입니다.
두분의 따듯한 말씀 고맙게 받아드립니다.
세월은 많이 흘러 갔지만, 젊은 시절 함께 공부한 우리의 인연은
일생동안 우리가슴에 조그만한 불씨로 있다가,
언제인가는 다시 재생 된다는 것을 알 것 같습니다.
항상 건강하시고 행복하시길 기원 합니다.
