When an osprey catches a big fish, it seems that she (or he) seems to remain in water a few more seconds to regain the poise and strength before flying off the water.
Though not shown in the video, in my imagination, the fish may be too heavy at times, and she makes a few futile attempts to fly off the water holding the prey, and, then, finally, she might have to let it go to get herself out of water.
Some of those big fish are probably heavier than the osprey. Fish are made up of solid and heavy structures with a dense body while birds are all puffy feathers and empty bones.
The powerful beatings of wings and merciless grips by claws are the epitome of birds of prey. The video is a good show of a predatory execution, a part of nature's way of life. Besides the tragic ends of those poor fish, it makes me feel the strength and determination of survival. It is a beautiful thing to watch. I guess that's why this video was made and shown by the author.
After I watched this video, I was wondering how come there are so many big, yes, huge fish in that small pond. My speculation is that these fish must have been put in that small pond for the ospreys. Nevertheless, it is really amazing to see how skillful ospreys are in catching fish.. !!
Do we know that so often bald eagles steal fish from ospreys? Generally eagles are larger than ospreys. Eagles feed on many different kind of meal, chicken, rabbits, dear, turtle, etc plus fish. But ospreys feed on fish only.
