Osama bin Laden is dead, and the United States is in possession of his body, President Barack Obama is expected to announce shortly.
The stunning news of the death of the Al Qaeda mastermind almost ten years after the September 11th terrorist attacks came about as the result of U.S. military action, according to CNN and NBC News.
Bin Laden was killed in a mansion outside the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, CNN further reported.
Bin Laden was shot in the head by U.S. forces, CBS News reported.
His body is no longer in Afghanistan, CNN further reported. A full autopsy will be performed to confirm the body belongs to bin Laden, whose DNA the U.S. is in possession of.
News networks were notified around 10pm that Obama planned to give a highly unusual address to the nation on an unspecified national security matter at approximately 11pm from the White House East Room.
The White House address has reportedly been delayed because Obama and CIA Director Leon Panetta are calling members of Congress and necessary committees to notify them of developments.
The turning point in the war on terror comes on the eighth anniversary of former President George W. Bush's controversial "mission accomplished" statement aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln after the March 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Obama got Osama
(at the special TV news announcement tonight)
Contrary to the initial rumor, Osama was killed by a small American ground forces
who attacked his compound directly on ground.
Members of Pakistan's intelligence service - the ISI - were on site in Abbotabad, Pakistan,
during the operation that killed Osama bin Laden.
The official said he did not know who fired the shot that actually killed Bin Laden.
In Obama's speech:
...In the future, America will never be at war against the Islam...
...American people did not choose this fight. It came to our shore...
...America can do whatever we set our mind to.
...Let us remember that we can do these things
not just because of wealth or power but because who we are.
One nation, under God, Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
This will raise the chance of Obama's second term.
Listen to Republicans' comment. They are not as happy as the rest of us.
Democrats comment: "Obama has done what Bush can only fantasize."
