Major Title at KPMG Women's PGA Championship OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Sunday, Danielle Kang made the unfamiliar familiar by relying on the strategy that helped her win back-to-back U.S. Women’s Amateur titles.
As the first time leader of a major championship, the 2012 rookie took a match play like approach to the final day of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and dominated her opponents on the closing stretch of the ‘match’ to win by one stroke for her first major victory and first career win on the LPGA Tour. “I really wanted to be tied for the lead tomorrow, just so that I could just play my game and just stay aggressive just like match play,” Kang said after the third round.
Kang is a leaderboard watcher and had more than one challenger to keep an eye Sunday as she was paired with co-leader Chella Choi. Defending champion Brooke Henderson was playing one group ahead. As Henderson rattled off three birdies in her first seven holes, Kang remained steady as the Canadian pulled into a share of the lead at 10-under par. Momentum looked to favor Henderson as Kang made bogey at the par four, 10th hole to drop out of the three-way tie at the top along with Choi.
But as is the case in any critical match, momentum shifted throughout the day and it was soon shifting Kang’s way. She went on a back nine tear, making four consecutive birdies to take a three-stroke lead into the final stretch. But Henderson didn’t make it easy for Kang. She made birdie at the par three, 17th and then came up one revolution short of an eagle to take the outright lead at the 18th as Kang made bogey behind.
Kang teed off on the 72nd hole tied with Henderson at 12-under par. She reached the green in two where she two-putted for birdie for a one-stroke victory over the defending champion. Kang’s victory comes in her 144th start on the LPGA Tour and she becomes the first member on Tour to make her first victory a major since Mo Martin at the 2014 Ricoh Women’s British Open. With her victory, Kang will likely earn one of eight automatic spot on the U.S. Solheim Cup team as she sat 10th in the standings entering the week.

Danielle Kang played like a true champion, indeed, which showed on the final hole.
Knowing that Henderson tied her, she hit the perfect drive and the perfect second shot.
When she was hitting the second shot, her facial expression showed it all, a gutsy lady
with a steely determination, that of a true major champion.
I was so proud of her, especially knowing that she misses her father all the time who died
in his 40's.

I watched the 3rd round yesterday but only watched the final play at the 18th hole today.
So, finally, we get another Korean girl in the US Solheim Cup Team?
I thought I saw her mother at the 18th hole.
I guess it was her who came out of the crowd and embraced Danielle.
For an American born Korean girl, she is a 정말 孝女로다 !
Both Kang and Henderson had "vicious" downswings.
What a speed and accuracy they have!

Danielle Kang was proved to be champion material.
4 birdies in a row in back nine, long par saving
putt in 16th hole, and birdie at 18th hole after
tie by Hendrson were vivid examples.
If Danielle Kang would make Solheim Cup mwmber,
she would be 3rd Korean. The other two are Michelle
Wie and Christina Kim.
Thanks for your comments! Gentlemen! KJ

Olympia Field Country Club is in our neighborhood.
I played there a few times on hospital golf outings etc.
Lots of Koreans living here went to see the game,
or worked as volunteers.
It was getting more exciting toward the end of the game.
We were very proud Korean American won the championship.

Thanks for your input! Dr. Bang!
I introduced Danielle Kang,Lydia Ko,Minjee Lee as
Seri Kids II in our websites number of years ago
and I have been waiting for Danielle Kang to excell.
Finally she has fulfilled our expectation this time .KJ
2012 Rookie Korean American Danielle Kang(24)
won KPMG Women's PGA Championship.
This is her first LPGA win and it happened to
be Major tournament of LPGA.
She entered LPGA as a promising rookie in 2012
after back to back U.S. Women’s Amateur titles
in 2010~2011,but she has not been able to win
LPGA tournament for past 5 years and it was
after her 144th trials.
The momentums have been changed back and forth, but
her 4 birdies in a row(11th-14th) in back nine with
closest challenger,defending champion Brooke Henderson's
missing eagle putt at 72nd hole made the difference.
Big monkey off her back with this win and I would expect
for her to do well in the future as once we all expected.
Let us big hands to champion Danielle Kang for her great victory! KJ
