2012 Rookie Korean American Danielle Kang(24)
won KPMG Women's PGA Championship.

This is her first LPGA win and it happened to
be Major tournament of LPGA.

She entered LPGA as a promising rookie in 2012
after back to back U.S. Women’s Amateur titles
in 2010~2011,but she has not been able to win
LPGA tournament for past 5 years and it was
after her 144th trials.

The momentums have been changed back and forth,but
her 4 birdies in a row(11th-14th) in back nine with
closest challenger,defending champion Brooke Henderson's
missing eagle putt at 72nd hole made the difference.

Big monkey off her back with this win and I would expect
for her to do well in the future as once we all expected.

Danielle Kang played like a true champion, indeed, which showed on the final hole.

Knowing that Henderson tied her, she hit the perfect drive and the perfect second shot.

When she was hitting the second shot, her facial expression showed it all, a gutsy lady

with a steely determination, that of a true major champion.

I was so proud of her, especially knowing that she misses her father all the time who died

in his 40's.

I watched the 3rd round yesterday but only watched the final play at the 18th hole today.

So, finally, we get another Korean girl in the US Solheim Cup Team?

I thought I saw her mother at the 18th hole.

I guess it was her who came out of the crowd and embraced Danielle.

For an American born Korean girl, she is a 정말 孝女로다 !

Both Kang and Henderson had "vicious" downswings.

What a speed and accuracy they have!

Danielle Kang was proved to be champion material.

4 birdies in a row in back nine,long par saving
putt in 16th hole,and birdie at 18th hole after
tie by Hendrson were vivid examples.

If Danielle Kang would make Solheim Cup mwmber,
she would be 3rd Korean.The other two are Michelle
Wie and Christina Kim.

Olympia Field Country Club is in our neighborhood.

I played there a few times on hospital golf outings etc.

Lots of Koreans living here  went to see the game,

or worked as volunteers.

It was getting more exciting toward the end of the game.

We were very proud Korean American won the championship.

Danielle Kang was born on October 20,1992 at SF,California,USA.

Her both parents are Korean Americans. She has been a well liked

player in LPGA and her best friend is known to be Michelle Wie.

 재미동포 대니얼 강(25)이 감격적인 프로 데뷔 첫 우승을 메이저 타이틀로 장식했다.

아마추어 최강자의 영광을 뒤로하고 오랜 부진에서 벗어나 데뷔 5년 만에 우승 트로피를 들어 올렸다.

대니얼 강은 3일(한국시간) 끝난 미국여자프로골프(LPGA) 투어 시즌 두 번째 메이저 대회인 'KPMG
위민스 PGA 챔피언십'에서 마지막 18번 홀(파5) 버디에 성공하며 13언더파로 정상에 올랐다.
2012년 프로에 데뷔해 138개 대회 만에 생애 첫 우승을 메이저 대회 우승으로 달성했다. 아마추어 때
출전한 대회를 포함하면 144번째 대회에서 거둔 값진 우승이다.

대니얼 강은 1992년 미국 캘리포니아주 샌프란시스코에서 태어났다. 12살 때 골프를 시작해 2년 만인
2007년 'US 여자 오픈'에 출전했다.

2010년과 2011년에는 아마추어 최고 권위를 자랑하는 'US 여자 아마추어 선수권'에서 2년 연속 우승을 차지해다.

1895년부터 시작한 이 대회에서 2년 연속 우승은 단 10명 만이 이룬 대기록이다. 대니얼 강이 그 중 한 명이다.

아마추어 최강자로서 기대를 한 몸에 받고 프로로 전향했지만 우승까지 너무나 오랜 시간이 걸렸다.

데뷔 시즌 '킹스밀 챔피언십'에서 3위에 오른 것이 역대 최고 성적일 정도로 우승과는 거리가 멀었다.
지난해까지 손목 부상에 시달리며 이렇다 할 성적을 거두지 못했다.

올 시즌 공동 4위에 두 번이나 오르는 등 '톱10'에 4차례 들며 우승에 근접한 성적을 냈다.
이번 대회에서 챔피언조의 중압감을 극복하고 우승 트로피를 들어 올려 오랜 무승 징크스를 깼다.

우승 퍼팅을 성공시킨 대니얼 강은 캐디와 기쁨을 나눈 뒤 관중석에서 자신의 경기를 지켜보던 어머니를
불러 뜨거운 포옹을 나눴다.

이 순간을 함께 하지 못한 아버지를 떠올리며 눈시울을 붉혔다. 대니얼 강의 아버지 강계성씨는 2013년
암으로 세상을 떠났다.

당시 'US 여자 오픈' 출전을 앞두고 대니얼 강은 아버지의 수술을 때문에 급하게 한국에 들어와야 했지만
아버지가 대회 출전을 강력하게 권유하면서 투어를 이어간 적이 있다.

그해 11월 아버지는 세상을 떠났고, 대니얼 강은 아버지를 기리기 위해 2014년 우측 손등에 '아빠'라는
문신을 새겼다.

오른손 검지손가락에 있는 'just be'라는 문신 역시 "항상 그대로의 네가 돼라"는 아버지의 조언에 따라
17살 때 새긴 것이다. 그만큼 아버지에 대한 사랑이 각별했다.

대니얼 강은 "아빠는 내게 자신감을 심어준 사람이다. 아빠는 항상 긍정적인 분이셨고, 그런 아빠를 존경했다.
항상 아빠와 함께하고 있다고 확신한다"며 아버지와 추억을 떠올렸다.

유년기를 부산에서 보낸 대니얼 강은 한국에 있는 동안 효림이라는 이름으로 불렸다.

그는 "어렸을 때 아버지가 부산에 계셔서 부산에서 자랐다. 네 살까지 유치원을 다녔는데 그때 효림이라는
이름을 썼다. 정식 이름이 아니라 가족 빼고는 아무도 모른다"고 말했다.

지금은 1년에 한 번 'KEB하나은행 챔피언십'이 열리는 기간 한국을 방문하는 것이 전부지만 한국 음악과
음식을 좋아하고, 유창한 한국어 실력으로 의사소통이 가능하다.

지난 1월 미국 골프전문매체 '골프닷컴'이 뽑은 2017년 골프계에서 가장 아름다운 여성에 5명의 선수 중
1명으로 선정되기도 했다.

생애 첫 우승의 기쁨과 함께 대니얼 강은 이제 미모 뿐 아니라 실력까지 겸비한 정상급 선수가 됐다.

대니얼 강은 "우선 집이 있는 라스베이거스에 갈 것"이라며 "2주 뒤에 US여자오픈이 기다리고 있기 때문에 그
이후 축하 파티를 할 예정"이라고 밝혔다.
