| The Netherlands in May At first glance, it looks like a giant child armed with a box of crayons has been set loose upon the landscape. Vivid stripes of purple, yellow, red, pink, orange and green make up A glorious patchwork. Yet far from being a child's sketchbook, this is, in fact, the northern Netherlands in the middle of tulip season. The Dutch landscape in May is a kaleidoscope of color as the tulips burst into life. The bulbs are planted in late October and early November. More than three billion tulips are grown each year and two-thirds of the vibrant blooms are exported, mostly to the U.S. and Germany.  Their dazzling colors are thanks to the years in the 17th century when tulip mania swept the globe and the most eye-catching specimens changed hands for a small fortune. But like a Rainbow, this colorful landscape is a short-lived phenomenon. When the flowers are gone, the land will be cultivated for a rather more mundane crop of vegetables. The Netherlands produce more than nine million bulbs a year. |

Netherland는 나막신, 풍차, tulip, 그리고 orange color로 유명한데
이곳 미시간에도 서쪽 grand Rapids 근방에 Dutch들이 모여사는
'Holland'라는 도시가 있어 봄에 있는 'Tulip festival'이 볼만하지요.
언젠가 class website에도 소개한바가 있었지요. 규정 -

제가 언젠가 그곳에 갔을 때 소개하는 분이 네델란드에서 가장 높은 산이 200미터가 안되고
그것도 인공으로 만든산이라는 이야기를 들은 적이 있습니다.
아마 포샵처리한게 아닐까요? -

사실 요새는 아무나라, 아무곳에나 Tulip 밭이 있으니,
그 사진이 Netherland는 아닐것이 분명합니다.
오월에 눈이 하얗게 쌓인 산이면 아주 높은산이지요. -

아름다운 경치입니다.
작는 나라 사람들이 세계를 주름잡고 다녔다는 것이 흥미롭습니다.
아직 눈속에 갇혀서 추위에 시달리는 동문들에게는 Season이 조금 빠른것 같지만,
혹시 가보고 싶은분들이 있을가해서 미리 예고편을 올립니다.
사진들중에서 중간쯤에 배경에 눈 덮힌 산이 보이는데,
Netherland에 이렇게 높은 산이 있을가 ??
E-Mail에서 줏어온 사진들이지만, 좀 믿기힘들군요.
