At the peak of the mountain,
which I have climbed for seventy years,
I finally stop and take a deep breath,
and look around.

Now I realize I have a bird's eye view
so the horizon seems infinite
and I can see things which
I couldn't while climbing.

I see the peaks and the valleys,
I see the streams, the forest and the trees,
the rocks, the flowers and the animals.
I can feel and converse with the wind that
sweeps the peaks and the valleys.
I can smell the flowers and the plants
in the air that I breathe.

At the peak of the mountain,

I finally stop and think for a minute.
What have I learned
when compared to the time
I started this journey?
Have I learned something since?
So what?
Have I become wiser when looking back?
So what?

Do I see a greater hope?
Do I see a greater promise?
Do I see a greater faith?

Do I see the lesser of them?

I find myself and my dear companion lady
all alone once again,
I find myself talking to myself,
yet no longer asking questions
that cannot be answered.
Yes, I find myself calm and at peace,
yes, I find my heart truly prayerful,
and full of love for HIM and for others.

who doesn't know anything,
who needs all the help he can get,
who is lost in the dark,
who hopes and prays with a simple heart,
and who begins to see the distant,
dim light from HIM on the horizon.
