People want to be rich and famous. Likewise, people want to be nice.
People can't be nice prior to having enough wealth. I can't find any country with over $35,000
GDP, where citizens are behaving badly.
The problem lies in how to become the country to have enough to have nice citizens.
I think two things have to come together; the quality of the citizen and the system. Koreans have had the talent
from their existence. But the system had never allowed them to use it for fulfilling their desire to be rich
until the birth of 대한민국. She is certainly a democratic nation with a successful free market.
Korea is the first-class country in every aspect of nations in the world. The first thing had to come is the economy.
Then sports, music, movies followed. Now, the world recognizes the high quality of medicine and science.
Mature civic awareness has just arrived.

Doc, if you think we have created a civilized democratic society on a garbage dump
(as Winston Churchill said once), I like to agree with you.
At the same time, I am very glad and grateful to Korean people to have brought
the peace, prosperity, and democracy that I wished in the middle of the ashes and rubbles in war-torn Korea.
It's worthwhile to have lived to old age to see what I wished when I was young and hopeless.

I join you gentlemen's sentiment towards our fatherland, South Korea.
Last time I was there was 1995 when my mother died so that it's been
25 years since I visited Korea.
For whatever reason I have always had my deep faith in our younger generations
in SK all my life ever since I left our fatherland and have said so so many times
on this page over the decades in spite of so many negative, so called expert opinions
and outlooks, towards situations of SK and its future.
One thing good that happened in SK thru this coronavirus crisis is that the crisis brought the people
together and brought out the best of Korean people's intelligence, character, determination and perseverance
and good heart.
Indeed this is the silver lining in the clouds, this global crisis, for Koreans.
As Dr. Ohn and I concurred in another page, and as our WM said,
indeed this experience made me feel worthwhile to have lived to be an old age
to see our fatherland being recognized prominently on the world stage.

자화자찬이 좀 들어가 있는데요, 그런대로 재미있읍니다.
