"Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha is one of USA TODAY's Women of the Century. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, we've assembled a list of 100 women who've made a substantial impact on our country or our lives over the past 100 years. Read about them all on Aug. 14."
I've been following the story of this humble pediatrician ever since the beginning.
This was happening in Flint, Michigan, just 30 miles north of where I lived over half
a century. She did what her heart told her to do as an honest physician with courage,
persistence, intelligence, and dedication. Her work is continuing with no end in sight
until all the exposed kids continue to be followed up medically throughout their lifetimes.
She had put all the government bureaucrats, including the former governor, involved
to shame singlehandedly. She deserves to be recognized as a woman of the century by
USA Today.
"Dr. Hanna-Attisha's research was initially ridiculed by the State of Michigan when a Michigan Department of Environmental Quality spokesperson accused her of being an "unfortunate researcher" "splicing and dicing numbers" who was causing "near hysteria."[18] About ten days later, after The Detroit Free Press published its own findings consistent with Dr. Hanna-Attisha's findings and after Hanna-Attisha engaged in one-on-one conversations with Michigan's chief medical officer, the State of Michigan backed down and concurred with her findings.[19][20] Later, at the press conference in which the State of Michigan acknowledged the lead in water crisis, the Department of Environmental Quality officials apologized to Hanna-Attisha.[21] In his 19 January 2016 State of the State address, Governor Snyder publicly thanked Hanna-Attisha and Edwards for sounding the alarm about the Flint water crisis.[22][23]"(from the Internet)
