 I felt that what he said about prayer is very much apropos for
non-believers as well as believers.

오늘 우연히 Pope에 대한 기사를 (아래에 인용) 읽다가 이 webpage의 Prayer 생각이 나는군요.
본인의 의견일 뿐이니 그리 아십시요.

"LISBON, Portugal – In his most thorough admission of the church's guilt in the clerical sex abuse scandal, Pope Benedict XVI said Tuesday the greatest persecution of the institution "is born from the sins within the church," and not from a campaign by outsiders. The pontiff said the Catholic church has always been tormented by problems of its own making — a tendency that is being witnessed today "in a truly terrifying way."

"The church needs to profoundly relearn penitence, accept purification, learn forgiveness but also justice," he said.

"Forgiveness cannot substitute justice," he said..... "

여기에서 마즈막 인용구절의 "용서는 정의를 대치할수없다"는 교황님의 말에 감동했지요.
그런데 문제는 교인들이 Pray할때 대부분의 경우 Pray의 목적이 "용서 받는것과 축복 받는것"이지요.
본인이 자의적 타의적으로 Praying session에 참가케되는데 아주 흔히 용서와 축복이
prayer의 main subject이 되더라구요.
그러면서 많은 교인들이 "Forgiveness is justice" 로 보는것 같습니다.
교회의 가장 강력한 무기의 하나는 "회개하라, 그러면 용서 받을지어다" 가 아닙니까?
교회의 불문율에의하면, 회개하기 위해서는 기도를 하고, 헌금, 봉사를 해야되지요.
따라서 The whole equation is: 기도+Money=회개=용서=Justice가 됩니다.
세상에 이런 엉터리가 어디있을가요?

사람들이 용서받기를 기도한후에, 용서가 grant되었다고 무조건 가정합니다.
즉 praying하면 "그걸로 다된다" 는거죠. 그러니 돌아서서 뻔뻔하게 다시 나쁜짓 시작할수있다고
생각하는듯 합니다. 즉 praying이 다음번 나쁜짓을 허가하는 허가서나 다름없게 보이지요.

이 글에서 Praying은 자기 자신을 위한것 (self-centered) 이 아니고, 남을 위한것.
True prayer is never self-centered; it is always centered on the other.
그때 비로서 prayer가 의미가 있게되는거겠죠 (이 글에 쓴것 처럼):
As such, it opens the person praying to the "ecstasy" of charity,....
...it keeps it open to God....

한국 교회에 가보면 느끼는것이, 그들의 Prayer에는 전혀 이런 숭고한 요소가 없고 거의 전부가
이기적인 祈福행위, 용서의 남용 같이 보이거든요. 이런걸 보면 참 입맛 떨어집니다.

...For this reason, without prayer there is no hope but illusion...
이렇게 볼때 (본인의 편견으로), 한국 사람들의 기도와 믿음은 하나의 Illusion에 지나지 않는것
처럼 보입니다. Illusion means nothing !! It look like a total waste of time and self-cheating.

우리는 pray할때 "축복이나 용서를 Pray하는것"을 절대로 금지해야 되지 않을가요?
다시 말해서 prayer는 정말 성실하고 신념있는 사람이 할때 의미가있는것이지,
요새 날날이 한국 교회나 목사들이 떠드는 prayer는 "사기, 기만, 장삿속, 하느님에 대한 모독"
밖에는 되지안는다고 생각이 됩니다 (그렇게 생각하면 안되겠고 그러고 싶지도 않지만).

Pope가 말하는 prayer와 일반 사람들이 실행하는 prayer는 전혀 번짓수가 다른것이지요.

이 article이나 한중님에 대한 반박이 아니고, 이글과 Pope의 말씀을 읽으며
본인이 느낀 생각입니다. People don't do what Pope wishes them to do !!

I thank you for your honest comments and
appreciate your boldness for speaking out your feelings out of your good heart.

There is much truth in what you said.
As you know, Jesus was very upset as you are because there was so much of the
same thing going on in his days. If you remember reading it in the bible,
he threw away of the money changers' tables and other merchants' stuff around the temple of Jerusalem.
HE was equally critical of those intellectuals and the privileged, i.e. Pharisees and Scribes,
who were taking advantages of the citizens by demanding all kinds of gifts and money
by invoking Moses' laws and asking them to follow Moses' laws to the letter.
Jesus always criticized the hypocrisy of these privileged high class people.
There is much to talk about, yet perhaps we would rather pray quietly.

I wish you would stick to your gun while praying, and would like to quote one paragraph
from Mark 9:19 on your behalf.

"Everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good,
but if salt becomes insipid, with what will you restore its flavor?
Keep salt in yourselves and you will have peace with one another."
