By the time anyone fulfills the criteria for the diagnosis of frailty,
chances are that it is too late for that person to reverse the course.
I witnessed only a few cases where my patient reversed the course
out of the condition of frailty. One 99-year-old man, the father of an MD,
did so by eating lots of cheese along with his motivated efforts.
Like any medical condition, frailty is a progressive condition with
many early warning symptoms and signs to which we must listen
if we want to prevent it from happening.
And that's where our daily challenges are.

[Stay Strong: Four Ways to Beat the Frailty Risk]
Fighting frailty, before I knew it, stealthily has become a personal challenge
whether I like it or not.
As a physician, I used to advise the elderly frail patients and their families
as this article illustrate. One example, I used to advise the caregiver that
my patient must be helped to get up and move around for a few minutes or longer
every 30 minutes during the day while watching TV or reading.
Now for some time I have realized I must practice what I used to preach,
and must eat my words.
Frailty, thy name is not woman but the elderly!
