Why this place is so famous?
Many cultural heritage sites of Inca era have been destroyed during Spanish
colonialization. But Machu Picchu ruins were not touched by Spanish
invaders and have been well preserved, surrounded by breath taking
scenery. This place  was a sanctury for the priests,  scholars, royal family and astronomers, they believe.
Unfortunately, there was no culture that used symbols to describe language in
S. and N. America, therefore there is no written historical record, a fatal weakness. 

On the other hand, in Eurasia, several cultures used visual symbols to transcribe 
language. The idea spreaded to many cultures rapidly. Then, knowedge began to be
accumulated and spreaded rapidly.  

When two cultures crashes, the defeated people got killed, exiled, absorbed, or
became slaves.  The dominant culture pervaded or got mingled, but some times the
 invaders were completely absorbed including their languages. Mongols and
manchus invaded china, but they lost  their language and culture by being melted
into the dominant chinese culture. But, most of the Inca cultural heritages were
destroyed or deformed .

왜 이곳이 세인의 이목을 집중하는가?

간단한 답은 스페인 정복중에 다 없애 버린 인카 문화 유산중 유일하게 잘 보존 됐다는 사실이다.

주위 경관도 수려하다. 두 문명이 충돌을 하면, 정복당한 사람들은 다 살해되는지, 노예가되는지, 어디로 끄려가든지, 혼혈이되고, 문화는 한쪽이 흡수를 하든지, 합쳐지든지, 없어지기도 하는데,
그 양상은 각양각색이다. 중국을 점령한 몽고족과 만주족은 점령후 중국문화에 흡수돼 자기의 언어와 풍습도 중국본토에서 없어 졋다. 남미에서는 종교 언어는 80%가 스페인쪽으로 변햇고, 30 %의 인구는 혼혈로됏고, 유적은 다 카토릭교회터로 둔갑을 햇든지, 없어졋다. 스페인 사람 손이 않 ㄷ다은 마추피후에는 모든게 지금까지 그댜로 있다, 하도 멀고 가기가 힘든 산골이라 그랫든 모양이다.


많은 정보가 공공 욉싸이트에서 Machu Picchu 혹 "마추피추" 라고 찍으면 나오기 때문에 여기 자세한 기재는 생략한다. 일본 NHK 방송국이 만든 동영상을 UNESCO web 에 기재해 놧으니 들어보시기 바란다. 이곳은 종교적인 성지엿고 학자, 왕실가족, 천문관측하는 사람들의 기거처로 생각된다. 불행이 문자가 없엇든 인카제국이라 남은 기록이 없는 것이 약점이다.

이 대육에 문자로 음이나 뜻을 기록하는 문명이 없어서, 그 생각을 근세까지 생각해내지 못한 약점이 이 문명이다. 아시아 아프리가유럽은 땅으로 연결된 덕택에 유라시대 대육에는 문자를 만들어 교신한다는 생각이 몇천년 부터 유통한것이 문화 발전의 밑거름이 된것이다.  

In Peru, the spainards converted the local religion and language mostly.
This is not confined to Spanish conquest.
We saw the destruction and defacing of Egyptian temples by moslem Arabian invaders. Even Egyptian language disappeared and the whole country took the religion of the conqueror, moslem. They all speak arabic now .
Even in recent history, we have witnessed a similar pattern.
A good example is the destruction of the largest buddhist sculture with a dynamite
in Afganistan by Talibans. During the cultural revolution of China, they even denied
 their own cultural heritage and destroyed own historical properties.

Now, the world sees more objectively the madnessness of cultural intolerance and
cherish cultural diversity, although it is not universal yet.

In Peru, 84% of population speaks Spanish now, 13% speaks Quechua,
local language,  and the rest speaks other languages. After independence many
came from europe and  now 15% are white, 45$% Indian, 37% mixed (mestizo), 3%
black, and the rest others.

In the 2007 census, 81.3% of the population over 12 years old described themselves as Catholic, 12.5% as Evangelical, 3.3% as of other denominations, and 2.9% as
non-religious. Literacy was estimated at 92.9% in 2007; this rate is lower in rural areas (80.3%) than in urban areas (96.3%).

I heard this Machu Picchu ruin was able to avoid the destruction due to its remoteness and difficult accessibility.

Machu Picchu can be reached by train from Olantaytambo train station not far away from cusco city.
Machu Picchu is about 9000 feet high with exceptional serene landscape surrounded by deep valley carved by Urubamba river.

This santuary once provided a shelter for those who resisted the Spanish invaders.
But they could not resist long without external support, therefore this place was
abandoned for several hundreds of years


이곳은 정치, 종교, 과학의 중심지엇고, 태양관측, 물관리 하든 유적유물이 있다.
한때는  스페인점령에  저항하는 인카 사람들의 기지로 사용되엇으나, 외부의 식량등 원조없이 오래 지탱할수없는 곳이라 결국은 퇴각해서 역사의 망각 속으로 사라진 곳이다.

마추피추 기차정류장이 아래계곡에 있고 보이고, 뱀같이 꼬불꼬불한 버스길이 산꼭대기 마추피추로 올라 간다.
이곳은 종교인 천문가, 일기 예보하는 사람들, 학자, 왕족 등 기거햇던 지금으로 말하면 
바티간 교황청 비슷한 곳이엇던 모양이다.

There is another steep hill with ruins just above the main ruin site. This site has a
 limited capacity to accomodate tourists and they allow only 400 visitors a day.

마추피추 에 큰 건물군 앞에 유적이 있는 산이 하나있는데,
거기는 비좁아 관광객을 하루에 400 명으로 제한.

We see a few people climbing up to the peak in this photo.

This  site once was used by Inca people who revolted against Spanish invasion but
they  could not win and abandoned this site which could not continue without
external support.

The photo below is the stone which measures the shadow of the sun, a solar clock
and calendar to tell people when to plant crops etc.
