It certainly is an interesting new finding for the neutrophils, doc! Another role of the neutrophils we didn’t know! Since the neutrophils recruit immune cells to sites of infection as phagocytes through the unique process of antibody opsonization, we transplant surgeons were keenly interested in the role of neutrophils as key regulators of NK cell functions.
Indeed, I personally spent so much time on the study for the macrophage-derived cytokines during my younger days as a blooming (?) career transplant surgeon so that it brings back all the memories with the feeling of déjà vu!!!
Yes, we certainly spent so much time- sometimes my wife packed three sandwiches to help me to stay till midnight at the lab! - to find out how to negate this immune system to ‘tolerate’ foreign cells/tissues like its owns so that we could extend the life of newly transplanted tissue especially when the body/immune system perceived already to fight back hard like ‘hyperacute transplant rejection’ in particular though this unique condition is led by the humoral/antibody immune reaction.
So, we learn every day, doc!

This must be a piece of good news for my wife.
Her absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is slightly lower than the lower normal limit due to the chemo.
That will keep her younger longer. Maybe I should get the chemo as well.
It is interesting!
In other words, every time we contract infections
we get older quicker by making neutrophils work harder.
Nothing is free in this universe.
