Spacetime and I / 이한중
Everyday
A space
An empty space
A spacetime continuum
Just a white canvas
There, in front of it,
I stand, I exist,
I wake up every morning to face
Every moment
Every pale blue dot of eternity
An exit for my soul
Looking for reasons
All the reasons why
I must exist
This heart must beat every second
These lungs must breathe in and out
This stomach must be filled
Etc.etc.etc....
My soul flies
I forgot the reasons
I forgot the answers
Someone says
I must live
I must love
Like other living things
I've been floating in the eternal river of life
My soul has been flying
in the eternal spacetime continuum
Every moment
Every pale blue dot of the eternal spacetime
I exist
I live
I love
My soul closes its eyes
Takes a shelter in silence.
As I did yesterday
As I will tomorrow.
Retired folks like me all have the luxury of
having many quiet moments every day
although they all seem to do their bests to keep
their days full.
This poem is out of those quiet reflective moments,
what I call a blue dot, which I was relating to
the book by Carl Sagan, "A Pale Blue Dot",
that was the picture of planet earth taken from spaceship, Voyager,
as it was leaving the solar system.
A pale blue dot with the background of blackness.
