If I have an acre to play with to make my promenade park, this is what I will do.
Build a mud wall first
Then I will add a triple gate so familar to our eyes.
And another gate of farmers, Ssarimun on the other side.
There are many sad histories in BaekJae Kingdom.
Here on this pagoda, a Tang General wrote, " I conquered Backjae."
Any Chinese will ask a question, what it means?
This is not a replica of 6.25 Korean War story too?
JeungRimSa pagoda.
I will surround it with a small rice paddy, with brocken pieces of roof tiles of date unknown.
On the other side, I will put a most beatiful stone lantern built during unified Silla period,
the one in Tong Do Sa temple taller than my hight, a rare two story lantern.
Not to miss any period, the main hall will be the one from BuSuckSa, a Koryo period
wooden structure, an oldest Korean wooden stucture.
Just in the middle back ground, a Lotus Pond in front of the Roo (a long gazebo-pavillion, fully
open), a typical Confucious middle school auditorium, preparing for the governement job .
Here, I will breath the the Lotus fragrance in early morning before flower petals close their gates.
The wall should be the half of this height.

My log-in gets undone and I cannot transfer photos!
All the needed photos are in the Photo section.

I wonder...
In order to put all those things, it may take about 2-3 acres minimum.
One acre is too small for those.
You will need significant amount of space around stone lantern and stone pagoda,
not to mention spaces for people to move around (being a public space).
When I went to Korea in 2005, I saw a lot of "imitation stoneworks" of national treasures
in many stone-art stores. Some of them were almost life size, such as 불국사 다보탑.
They were almost exact replicas, except that they look "brand-new".
There, I felt "no romance or respect" at these artificial things.
No idea how much it will cost to bring them to NY.
Dr. Minn;
If login gets undone, please re-login.
It happens to me very often too.
Originally, our logins are supposed to last 30 minutes but after software update,
something messed up the login system.
I have not had time to get this thing fixed.

1. Need for frequent log-in
I had to use other site for initial writing and transfer here. Some times log-in is undone even after one minute. I had an impression that it has to do with the screen change/shift,
e.g getting data from other program?
2. Size of a garden
E.g. Bulkuksa
I measued the size of Bulguksa from Google map. main area is about 150 feet x 200 feet about 3/4 acre. The distance between Dabotap and SukgaTap 100 feet. I think a stone lantern cannot take more than a large plastic trash bin. So one acre home site is enough to make a
gadren for morning walk. Smaller one needs to reduce the scale and the number of elements
of course.
Why Packjae pagoda?
Silla pagoa and PackJae pagoda is different. Style and symbolism is important in any human production I think, reminding someting via our memory system.
I bought a series of books: on pagoda, lantern, Roo, SeoWon (school), etc. When you see 50 or more of them in pictures, you get an idea,
A contrast for your eyes.
This is Silla SukGaTap.(Left) Right is from paekjae period.
3, Similar style or replica
NamDaeMoon or GuangWhaMoon, they are not the originals.
Some times the replica or copy is better, depending on who made it.
All the Roman sculptures started with copying Greek pieces. Taste is always added when
copying. That is how the style changes over the years. I saw some of the propotypes of our
Pagodas in India, but I could only vaguely guess the connection.
This is the Khajuraho temple complex in India where I went last year.
Those huge pagodas were used for different religious believes.
The sculpture were all erotic scenes, reminding of Kamasutra illustration.

Another hidden treasure we have among our alumni.
It's you, Minn sun-bae-nim.
Please, show me here on our site and give me a lesson
or two about Painting, Architecture like Myongsoon-nim
(70, college of music) does for me for Classic Music.
Now, our site is Internet University, really,
Thanks to our WM.

Dr. Minn;
What I meant was:
If you want to build something you might as well make it good for the long run.
I am sure you can build the whole thing within one quarter or one half acre lot too.
But you will soon regret that you don't have enough space later.
My home is sitting in 0.7 acre lot and there's hardly any space for all the things you plan
to build. 1 Acre is only 1,210 평, 43,560 square foot.

1. Two guests here will have an accidental encounter in Constantinople soon, in 3 days.
2. Space for small promenade yard.
The Roo-Gazebo cannot be more than 12x 20=240 sq for a small gathering.
Main structure 30x 60 feet=1800 sq..half size of the BusukSa Bondang.
Total 2040 square dwelling area for one acre which will leave too much open space
I thought, but it will give the empty spacy feeling like RyoAnzi back garden,
but it will make think about something else when moon rises.
That is the reason why I will scatter brocken roof tiles around the pagoda.
황성 옛터에 밤이 오니 월색만 고요해...
Of course everyone will think about something meaningful in their memory.
If I can do that, nothing more I can expect
Everyone wants to live in fantasy world. Suddenly I thinks about Corinthos, where
brocken columns were everwhere.
The back garden of this temple looks like less than 1/2 acre. My memory is vague.
The maroo and mud wall is srait. Super-wide-angle distored the view.
Two decorative stone structures I draw in my diagram may break the monotony
like those mounds of rocks here, but they have many stories to tell and
as much as you can imagine.
The mud wall will cut off distracting outside views, giving the feeling of being insde of
another world.. all my imagination. Imagine this is a opera stage or something like it!
If someone has empty one acre of land, there will be 1000 of suggestions, ranging from
mini-golf course, organic vegetable garden, swiming pool, horse staple, a mini Church or
mosque.
3. Dr. Bang!
I will send you the original measurements of the old SoSaeWon Park buildings
in DamYang which I got by an accident.

A-i-go, Minn sun-bae-nim,
What a surprising news this is!
Can you give me your schedule in NY?
I don't want to miss the chance to meet you
but we need to adjust meeting time and date, Sir.
I'll call you later today, Wed. or tomorrow, Thu.,
early in the morning like I did the other day.
2010.09.21 20:45
Dr. Bang,
Well, I should be at the JFK airport by 1:45 pm on Friday.
My schedule: I have 16 hrs in NY and 8 hours to sleep!
Get up 10:30 am and will be free at 11:00 am (our time 8 am)
What about if I call you as soon as I get up?
I left NY Quuens in 1973 and I have no idea where we can meet other
than at the hotel loby.
If you have many appointments, I should not disturb you, but..
I have to be back in NY and SF on Oct. 3 and at the Prison by Oct. 5, 2010
I will call you tomorrow.
But, nothing more to tell other than my wish to meet you!
2010.09.21 21:18
It was nice talking to you today, Minn sun-bae-nim.
I'll take this drawing as a suggestion to future Korean Garden at QBG.
I'll make a copy and will send to our architect as a reference. Thanks.
PS; I was going to write my thought after I talked to you under the title of
"Friends of SNUCMAA.US". I would call all the contributors on our Web as
my friends, very close friends with whom I can meet whenever I want.
It's because they are just a click away.
