It was you from the start, a loud motor from a country mill.
It was you from the start, a half-inch milk tube from a dairy farm.
You were a race horse, day and night.
These days you whisper a “Phillip Glass” sonata.
I used to call you every day: “Pump on”, “pump off”--
There were times when I screamed “Oh Shit!”
There were times of "Thank you, God! Praise the Lord.”
There were times when I went out alone,
Washed my face with cold water
 --and watched the teary eyes in the mirror.
Though your screws are still firm and tight,
My heart is losing its might.
The summer is gone
The green pasture around us is turning yellow.
I am leaving you, my dearest, for another horseman.
Now, on your cool brow drooping,
I am leaving a small trace of my lips—a kiss farewell.

developed in mid 1950’s.
It functions  as  the  heart and lung of the patients
while  heart surgeons work on the patient's diseased  heart.
First generation heart surgeons  got the idea  of heart lung machine
from a milk-pump in a dairy farm.

먼  옛날 어느 시골 방앗간의  발동기-- 너로 부터의 시작이었다.
먼 옛날  시골목장의 우유짜던 튜브 -- 너로부터의 시작 이었다.

언제나 푸른말(靑馬)같이  뛰어다니던 너.

요즈음엔  "황병기"류  가야금 산조(散調) , 조용히 속삭이기만 한다.

매일 같이   너를 불렀네  “펌프 돌리세요, 이제 끄세요.”
"오!제기랄"할때도 있었다
"오!하나님 고맙습니다." 할 때도 있었다.
혼자   나가  찬물로  세수하고  거울보며  울던 때도  있었다.

아직 그대안의  나사들  단단하건만
그대  뛰놀던 여름의 숲 이젠  갈색으로   물들고,
나의 심장은 조 금씩 식어가는가?
 지금 고개 숙인 너, 푸른말(靑馬)이여,
그대의   차가운  이마위에
나  이제  이별의   작은  입술  자욱 남긴다.

*심장 수술시  수술도중 환자의 심장과 폐 기능을  대신 해주는 기계. 
심장 외과의사가 수술하는데에  필수적 장비. 1950년대  중반부터 개발,
현대  심장 수술이 가능해짐. 초기 인공심폐기는 미네소타 목장의  
우유 짜던 펌프에서  idea가 나왔다는 설이 있음.


여기 보신 이 harpist 는  2 살때 화란으로 입양된 주목 받고 있는
한국 출신 Harpist 로 최근 현대 미국 작고가중  최고 의 지위에있는
Phillip Glass 와 여러가지  collaboration 을 하고 있다고 합니다.
