Have you ever seen these vagaries of sunlight reflection? It was about 3 weeks ago in a sunny afternoon, when my wife called me to see some unusual reddish reflection from the south window. ... Your story reminds me of the story of Van Gogh and Monet who were fascinated by discovering
all different colors, shades and reflections in the span of changing hours of the day
although they were painting in the same areas.
I am impressed and amazed by your analytical observations.

In addition to Dr. Chung's "Astronomical theory", I can offer you three more theories.
1. Scientific theory:
Well, Doc, the images definitely look like the waves in the lake reflecting the sun light.
I saw very similar images like this at the lakeside or seashore especially when I was located higher up
from the water but I have never seen them in red color.
They were always in whiter (light) color. I think the red color came from the window.
I don't think waves can split the sunlight into it's component colors
as they are far from being like optical prisms.
It can be the window or some sun-block film on the glass that reflects the sunlight differently than usual.
You may remember some plastic film occasionally shows rainbow hues.
Do you have sun-block film on your window glasses or are they double-paned?
I think this could be the culprit.
Extra layer of reflective material on the window can play a trick like that.
Also, similar extra layer of reflective material on the lake water can do the same.
(such as oil spills from the darn motor boats)
Anyway, I am by no means an optical physicist. Please don't take me too serious.
2. Cultural theory:
My second theory is not about optical but about visionary.
As we all know that we are getting close to the Halloween season, it's that time of the year.
Most people don't believe such stuff but you never know for sure.
Maybe a couple of ghosts were resting and hanging around your warm south-facing windows
on the way to a long trip to where they would plan to scare the hell out of some kids
or some dumb adults as well.
3. Medical theory:
By the way, did you hear any sounds of classic orchestra playing while watching the windows?
In that case, I may have to go into my third theory but I am going to rest my case at this point.

The theory number one sounds plausible
if indeed there is some kind of film on the glass.
Double or triple pane window with or without sun block film
may well create some sort of prism under certain conditions.
The nutsy cuckoo theories, number 2 and 3, are good stories
for small grand kids on Halloween.

To Dr. 이 and WM:
Thanks for your interest.
However let me try to explain a little about our home windows.
This home was built in 2004, replacing the 100 year old cottage, by the Timber frame home builder
called New Energy Works, with whom we made full contract, and it took 6 months to complete.
I can assure you that our windows are simple, regular windows, not paned windows, no sun-block-films.
I opend the House Journal of this house and found Marvin Windows were installed.
Possible existance of reflective materials such as oil spills? It has not been known here in our 20 years' living.
My late neighbor, Mr. Sandel, had told me that this Canandaigua lake water was the cleanest in America,
only to be matched by that of Lake Tahoe!
Your last theory is still intriguing. I will try to catch couple goblins for the next ten days or so.
Next is the comparison between Paned window and Marvin windows.

If anyone has ever seen these moving shining dots out of any other sources
such as paned or sun-blocked films, or even oil-spilt water,
please show me such images or videos so that I shall be convinced of some other explanation(s).
