When the party of Lincoln is aimlessly wondering, United States of America
will not stay united, but divided. It is not the matter of right or wrong. If you
want to ignore the wrong and embrace the right, you are asking for the dictatorship
because undoubtly the chaos will ensue and people will yearn for law and order with
strong grip. Trump was looking for the chaos and opportunity to become a dictator.
Now Trump is gone but red states is loyal to him and the other states are not. Do we
need a nicer dictator ? Or two different countries?

I don't think the "red states" will stay loyal to Trump. People changes all the time.
I think Trump is, practically and realistically, gone over the hill.
He will turn into a street beggar very soon. Stupidity like his would not last long.
There is nothing believable, left in Trump's integrity for people to respect.
The impeachment procedure came up too quick for the senators
and for the people to fully digest the true meaning of the event of Capitol insurrection.
Facing a certain defeat in the Senate, I still don't understand why the Democrats hurried up
the impeachment proceeding. The stupidity runs in both parties... Stupid politicians !!
It seems that the political power of Trump is over-inflated in America
and the spirit of "White Supremacy" will be fade away soon or later.
I believe, eventually, America will be a melting pot with new prosperity.
The Asians will silently bring the country into a new America. It will take some time though.
Please be confident in yourselves as Koreans.
Please don't go around respecting the damn Chinese and the red-neck whites.

I like Steve's enthusiastic view on this racial issue and wish to share, but I somehow got trapped and cannot throw away such pessimistic view with fear on Asian minority as well because such racial hatred only reflects a genuine human nature: "birds of a feather flock together", hopefully I am wrong!!!! But I still believe this country is the best in the world to accommodate all the varieties of human beings from four corners of the world and pray for the best to become a melting pot if not at least a 'salad bowl happily ever after' for our own children's generation.

It will be a nightmare if the middle of America becomes MAGA nation
and the blue states in the east and west coast declare another nation.
And the people begin to migrate for their favorite nation. Democracy
has to include all citizens of a nation. We can not carve out any group
of people even though they are wrong and foolish.

Civil War never ended, Dr. Ohn. I came and I saw and I believe so!
Indeed, I convinced myself through 4-year experience in Columbia, SC before I returned to the civilized world, Yankeeland, to settle in Washington DC in 1978 after I finally gave up the original plan to go back to SNU to pay back/resume the work.
Yes, they, Southerners, live in a different world we will never understand, with different concepts, refusing to accept Yankee’s liberal concept.
YES, the Civil War still continues down there and Trump simply took advantage exploiting their grievance: “Yankee go HOME”- we all saw Confederate flag carrying riots through the Capitol incitement!!!
Of course, they also wish ‘damned foreigners like me ought to go their home country’, if not, at least back to Yankeeland where they belong to, by all means! How did I know? They told/confessed to me when I became a genuine friend to them enough to share their honest feelings/advice.
Yes, a few weeks after I settled at Columbia, SC to join the new medical school of Univ SC temporarily in 1975 after I finished the training at MCV, Richmond, Va while negotiating with SNU for the condition to go back to SNUH, I had a unique chance to save one old man's life from the ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm on Sunday morning when I happened to pass by the ER on way to my office to pick up the camera. He was a leading senior member of their society and also the father-in-law of Columbia mayor so that I became a close friend to his family enough to share a genuine friendship till I left/moved to Washington DC later.
Indeed, as they remind us, the Civil War is now barely over one hundred years, not enough time to heal(?) for them. A foreigner like me is the worst combination they will never accept. Because they really loved me, they reluctantly told me ‘you do not belong here! you go back to where you belong to for your own welfare especially for the children’. So I took their advice deep down to my heart and moved out to Washington DC as soon as I decided NOT to go back to Seoul. So I know how they feel about the Northern intruders too well!!!!
I wonder how much has been changed through the last two decades?!

I would like to think that Trump's stupidity might be a flintstone to flourish America
again into one united nation. I trust that the Americans will do it.
This lead impeachment manager summarizes succinctly
the outcome and other issues of the trial outcome.
We'll see how this country and Biden administration deal with
Trump and his blind followers that are threatening American democracy.
