Our family in the LPGA Solheim Cup !!

Please don't get too excited by the subject of the webpage.
Yes, we were there but not as a "Solheim Cup" team-players !!

We went to LPGA "Solheim Cup" Tournament in the final day (yesterday, Sunday 8-18-2013) that was being played at Colorado Golf Club in Parker. Parker is not far away from our home only about 10 miles. As you know, there were no Korean players in this game. However, being a biennial event and it happens in US soil only every 4 years, It may never happen again in my life time so close by. So, we decide to go there. Fortunately, my family had a chance to meet Annika Sorenstam (Swedish, Sub-captain of European team) near the club house earlier. One of my granddaughter has "Annika" as her middle name, following her Swedish maternal grandmother.

At the 15th hole, par 5, we waited for the duo of Michelle Wie (American) and Caroline Hedwall (Sweden) at the side of mid-fairway. Each hit the tee shot. Michelle's ball landed perfectly in the middle of the fairway but Caroline's ball went very wide to the right landing nearby our family. Her ball was in the rough but well visible.
One of the reason we followed Caroline Hedwall at the moment was that she was Swedish and my daught-in-law is a Swedish as well.

My granddaughters were carrying European and Swedish flags with them.
I and my wife didn't know exactly whom (American or European?) to support !! Ha, ha, ha.

We watched Caroline getting out of the rough easily with 6 iron.
She looked like a man with heavy legs and masculine face like a gangster of some sort. Michelle Wie made an easy par while Caroline put her ball into the right greenside bunker in her third shot. She made a bogy, getting behind two shot in the match game.

At the 16th hole, very tough par 4, Michelle got a bogey while Caroline had a par. They were even at the 18th tee box. By then European was 13.5 while American was somewhere 9. European could win by total 14 points and it would take only one tie or win to clench the trophy. Then a thunder storm warning came. There was a 55-minute delay. We left the course and headed home. While waiting for the bus in the shuttle station, we heard that Michelle lost to Caroline at 18th hole and the entire game was over with European team winning the game by a unprecedented large margin.

It was the first ever historical win by Europeans in American soil.

Today, my son found a picture in the national news.
And our family were there in the picture !!

We watched all day following various players.
Europeans were really excellent. All of them were super....
Caroline Headwall was just a rookie as the coache's pick but she won 5-0 (never defeated).
The least I can say is that Caroline Hedwall was educated in America.

It was a very long walk under the burning Colorado sun.
For the most part of the walk, either Stella or Stina was on my back.
Well, isn't that what a grandpa is for?
