Korean-born New Zealand's world No 1 Lydia Ko has followed in Danny Lee's footsteps in winning the US Amateur golf title. The 15-year-old from the Gulf Harbour Country Club was impressive in the 36 hole final to defeat American Jaye Marie Green by 3 and 1 at The Country Club. Ko, who was never behind in the match, was 1-up after 18 holes this morning before turning on a master-class when it mattered most in the final 18 holes. The New Zealand rep produced one of the shots of the tournament - an eagle two on the par four sixth - to get to 2-up. She followed that up with consecutive birdies and claimed a 4-up lead and the advantage in the championship match. She bogeyed the 11th and 16th to slip back to 2-up but with a par on the 17th was good enough to seal the 3 and 1 win and become the first New Zealand woman to claim the US Amateur title |

At the U.S. Women's Amateur, Lydia Ko of New Zealand downed Jaye Marie Green
of the United States in the championship match by a 3-and-1 score.
Ko is one of the wunderkinds of women's golf at the moment.
She's only 15 years old, and she is the second-youngest to win the U.S. Women's Am.
Only Kimberly Kim, who was 14 when she won the 2006 tournament, was younger.
But not to worry, Ko already has another age record:
She won a pro tournament - the ALPG New South Wales Open - earlier this year
when she was only 14.
That makes her the youngest person, male or female, to win a significant pro tournament.
