 AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Phil Mickelson kept yanking balls into the trees, and even had an unexpected brush with a pollen pod on the green.When Lefty was done, he had a third green jacket after an incredibly trying year -- and a hug from his wife that never felt better. Already a fan favorite and now the sentimental pick with his wife, Amy, and mother battling breast cancer, Mickelson rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt at the signature 12th hole -- the heart of Amen Corner -- then managed a stunning shot off the pine straw and around a tree to set up another birdie at the next hole. Mickelson capped it off in style, rolling in another birdie at the 18th for a 5-under 67 that gave him a three-stroke win over 54-hole leader Lee Westwood, his playing partner in the final group and a guy who's getting far too used to coming up just short in the majors."To win this tournament, it's the most amazing feeling," Mickelson said from Butler Cabin. "This has been a special day. I'll look back on this day as very memorable, something I'll always cherish."Westwood was third in the last two, the British Open and PGA Championship, and now he's got a runner-up finish. But that first major title will have to wait."Phil, being the champ he is, just hit some great shots down the stretch," Westwood said. "He's been through hard times recently. He deserves a break or two."Hard-charging Anthony Kim finished with a 7-under 65 that sent him to the clubhouse clinging to hope Mickelson would falter, but Lefty wasn't going to throw this lead away. Not after all his family went through -- a striking contrast to the storyline coming into this year's Masters: the downfall of Tiger Woods after revelations that he had cheated on his wife with numerous mistresses. Elin Woods never showed at Augusta National, but Amy Mickelson was there, standing behind the green as her husband walked up to finish off the fourth major title of his career.Woods was among the contenders who faded away, struggling all day with a shaky swing off the tee and never made a serious push for the lead. He finished with a 3-under 69 and 11-under 277, tied with K.J. Choi for fourth."That's not what I wanted," said Woods, playing for the first time in five months since a sex scandal severely damaged his reputation. "I wanted to win this tournament. As the week went along, I kept hitting the ball worse. It was not very good."His big highlight was holing out from the seventh fairway for an eagle, and he had another eagle at the 15th, but an inexplicable three-putt bogey from about 6 feet at the 14th doomed his chances. He was four strokes behind Mickelson."I only enter events to win," Woods said. "I didn't hit the ball good enough and made too many mistakes around the green. As a result, I'm not there. "Woods wasn't the only one to feel Augusta's bite. Fifty-year-old Fred Couples dumped a shot in the water at the 12th, leading to a double-bogey that stifled his bid to become golf's oldest major champion. Choi looked steadier than anyone until two straight bogeys knocked him from a share of the lead to four shots behind. Kim started the day seven shots behind before surging up the board, climbing within a shot of the lead with an eagle at 15 and a birdie at 16. After closing with two pars, all he could do was watch Mickelson finish out his round in the last group of the day. Choi was trying to give South Korea its second straight major championship. He was 4 under through 12 drama-free holes, pulling into a tie for the lead with Mickelson and looking poised to emulate Y.E. Yang, who rallied to beat Woods on the final day at last year's PGA Championship.But Choi, after another perfect tee shot at 13, pulled his approach into a bunker left of the green and wound up taking bogey at a hole that most golfers count on to produce at least a birdie. Still rattled by that miscue, Choi bogeyed the next hole as well, allowing Mickelson to pull away.Westwood started the final round with a one-stroke lead over Mickelson, but a three-putt bogey at No. 9 sent Lefty around the turn with his first outright lead of the tournament. The Englishman lost another crucial stroke to his playing partner when he missed a 4-foot birdie attempt at the 15th, after watching Mickelson tap in for his.Kim was the hottest golfer on the course, rolling in back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14 before the eagle at 15th. When he knocked his ball over the water and rolled in another putt at 16, the place was rockin'. But he couldn't keep it going on the tough finishing holes, settling for pars that left him at 12-under 276 and gave Mickelson a bit of a comfort zone. Couples finished with a 70 for a 279 total, quite a performance by the Champion Tour regular who wears tennis shoes with no socks to help him cope with back pain."I finished well and I had a great week," Couples said. "It was a lot of fun."Nick Watney matched Kim with a 65 to finish at 280. |

I watched it too. Michelson's win was really not exciting at all
as everyone and all media people wanted him to win.
A rich and spoiled kid was getting his toy again. A stupid event at best.

There's no drama of an underdog winning the dream !!
So, it was an wasted afternoon of TV watching for me.One thing that saved the afternoon was the failure of Tiger !!
I enjoyed his failure. Yes, believe or not, I did.
(Can you imagine what a bad guy I am? I even surprised myself in that. Aigo, Aigo.) -

Tiger; $330,000, K.J; $330,000----Not bad for 4 days work, not bad at all)2. Most Birdies made in one round was by Anthony Kim during second round
of 2009 Masters. He made 11 Birdies. Wow!3. The youngest one that won Masters was Tiger at age of 21 in 1997.
And he is the one that won by widest margin by 12 strokes(-18, 270).

Mickelson already won twice.
I wholeheartedly rooted for K.J.Choi, Y.E. Yang or Anthoy kim.
Who cares wheather Tiger win or lose?
But as you have said everyone and every news media wanted Mickelson to win.
Very disappointing afternoon. -

Eventhough I too was rooting for Korean players to win, but
I appreciated Phil's emotional victory considering his sick mother
and wife and agony he has been through because of them this year. KJ -

Phil, as far as I know, is a dedicated family man, a dedicated husband and father and a son.
His conduct so far is a sharp contrast to what Tiger Wood did
as far as his sincerity as a family man is concerned.
He is no different from Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, and as a matter of fact, he may have modeled
his life after those two golf greats.
Like everybody else, I've been aware of what his family has been going through.
The TV commentator was saying his wife is going thru chemo and was too weak
to watch her husband playing.
They had to arrange a place where she could lie down to rest
before she comes out near the end of the game.
I could tell how pale she looked. And those three little girls hanging on their father.
The long embrace between Phil and his wife, I thought, was so moving that most people
who know the story would also have tears as well.
I could tell Phil was a determined man to win one for his wife.
What impressed me most was that when he was putting the short birdie putt,
the one a billion chance thing happened, i.e. the wind dropped a leaf or something
after he made the stroke and the ball went over it only
to be moved sideway a little to prevent the birdie. All of us saw it.
Phil didn't show the emotional outburst. He remained calm and more determined.
As a matter of fact, I thought that might have been a bad omen.
He overcame that unlucky event and went on to make the great shot.
I honestly believe Phil is a good example for all the young people and the golfing world.
Tiger has a lot to learn from him.As a physician who takes care of the sick everyday,
it is only natural for me to have the empathy towards Phil.
Of course, I was rooting for KJ Choi and Anthony Kim.
We all are proud of what they accomplished as those commentators had to admit
they are good enough to win.
And yet Phil was a better player and deserved to win. -

Follow Yahoo! Sports' Devil Ball Golf on Facebook and Twitter.Before the Masters started, Tiger Woods told us that he had changed. His outbursts would be quieted, his club tossing would be softened and he was going to be a different guy on the golf course.
No matter if you bought that or not, it's true that the weekend brought out some of the old Tiger. He screamed "Tiger, you suck!," only to follow that up with a profanity unlike any other in the third round. On Sunday on the 13th hole, Woods screamed "Jesus Christ!" after a tee shot and he wasn't complimenting the man upstairs.
It wasn't something new with Tiger, but it is something he told us would be avoiding in the future. Jim Nantz, the voice of CBS at the Masters, had a chance to talk with Mike Francesa of WFAN on Monday, and let it be known that he wasn't happy with the way Woods acted.
"If I said what he said on the air, I would be fired. I read in the USA Today and it was called “mild language.” Someone on my broadcast dismissed it as him having a camera in his face. Well, guess what? Phil Mickelson had a camera in his face all week and did you even hear him come close to approaching that? He didn’t hit every shot the way he wanted. Have you ever heard Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus use that kind of language? What are the parameters between what’s right or wrong?"
Nantz then admitted that this isn't something that has disturbed him in the past, but the fact that Tiger promised us a change is why it rubbed him the wrong way. He mentioned that he doesn't speak perfectly, but when the red light is on, he has things he cannot say.
He also said that there are people watching the telecast that shouldn't be subjected to such profanities.
"How about the father and son who are standing right there by the tee? How about the hundreds of people who are around that tee who hear that? How about the hundreds of letters I’ve gotten through the years from people who have been outraged at the language they’ve heard there and have written me and said, ‘Why don’t you guys ever say something about that?’ "
Nantz obviously has some great points here. If you're going to cuss when the cameras are rolling over a live broadcast, that is one thing, but when you tell us you won't and still do it, it sure makes you look bad. Especially for a guy trying to bulldoze his past image.
Lefty has got third green jacket!
It was extremely emotional win for Phil and he dedicated this win
to 2 ladies,his mom and wife Amy,whom he loves most in the world
and they have been fighting against breast cancer.
Phil has been family man for whole his career,which all of us admired.
I am very happy for him for this win. God bless his family!
It was a great show presented by Korean players(Anthony Kim,3rd and
KJ Choi tie for 4th)as well and it was a little short at the end.
I am very sorry for Lee Westwood,who has been so close to win for last
3 majors(2 3rd places in British Open and PGA Championship and 2nd in
Masters).
Tiger was playing un-Tiger like fashion for whole day,but he still managed
tie for 4th place. KJ
