2011년 시월에 우리 내외는 Newport Beach, California에서 북으로,
친정동생 내외는 Sonoma에서 남으로 운전하여 Yosemite에서 만났습니다.
워낙 캠핑을 즐기는 expert camper인 동생이 모든 장비를 마련해 와서
우리는 편하고 쉽게 캠핑의 멋과 맛을 즐기고 왔지요.
많은 사람들이 가장 아름다운 미국의 국립공원이라고 사랑하는 Yosemite,
광대히면서 준수한 자연속에서 마음속 구김새가 화악 펴지는 듯, 평화로웠습니다.
그래서 산을 찾나 보다고 생각했습니다.
산은 늘 그 자리에서 우리를 기다리고
아가들을 보듬어 주듯 너그럽게 품을 열어 주나 봅니다.
예전에 이기우님이 쓰셨던 frame을 빌려 썼습니다. 이기우씨, 감사합니다.

Yosemite NP 여행기를 저희들과 share 하심을 감사드립니다.

저도 30년도 훨씬 전에 학회참석차 SF에 갔다가 들른적이
있었는데 그저 주마간산격이어서 아쉬웠었습니다.

그 수려한 풍광들을 다시와 보겠노라 하면서도 아직 기회를
잡지 못했네요.

저희는 2008년도 6월에 Yosemite 를 다녀왔습니다.
딸아이가 Four Season에서 운영하는 three bedroom  house 를 rent 하여서 
우리 온가족이 너무나 편한 hiking을 5일동안 즐기다 왔습니다.

사진들이 아주 선명하게 잘나왔군요.
저희가 갔을적에 근교에서 산불이 있어서 사진들이 거의 뿌였게 나왔습니다.
지금 다시 사진들을 보니 새롭습니다. 

fresh 한 자연을 즐기시는 두선배님의 건강하신 모습 아주 보기 좋습니다.

여기에 가시면 다른 template도 있읍니다. 누구나 베껴서 modify해서 쓰십시요.

1968에 의대 동기생인 조광호, 최영인, 박용호와 함께 2주일간 7000-mile의 서부여행을 하면서
Yosemite에서 하루 camping하면서, Sentinel Dome을 방문했을때,
Jeffrey Pine은 Main trunk가 옆으로 기댄체 가지는 하늘로 향하면서 푸른 솔잎이 덮혀서 살아있었지요.
그때도 이 나무는 명물로 알려져서, 그때 본인이 찍은 slide에 남아 있는데 지금 당장 찾을수는 없군요.
그때도 망망한 바위위에 혼자 서있던 나무가, 과연 얼마나 살가 걱정스러웠는데
결국은 머지않어 죽었군요 (1980년도에 벼락을 맞어 죽었다함).
지금의 잔해는 하늘로 솟았던 가지조차 없어졌군요.

청명한 날씨와 아름다운 경관에 Yosemite의 아름다운 자연을 다시 감탄합니다.

1968년에는 우리는 아직 한국에 있었습니다.
1996년 7월에 형제들과 함께 가서 장장 10마일의 Panoramic Trail을 걸었었지요.
이번에는 좀 멀리 떨어진 곳으로 다녔습니다.
참 아름다운 국립공원, 미국의 첫번째 국립공원이 된 이유가 있다고 생각했습니다.
또 가서 구석 구석 찾아보고 싶은 산이라고 생각합니다.
"Data and Info"에 Frame Templates가 있다고 알려주셨는데 잊고 있었네요.
상기시켜 주셔서 들어가서 보고 나왔읍니다. 감사합니다.

Once upon a time, I had a very good friend of mine
during and after college days and he guided me to
The Yosemite NP. We were young then, right after
we finished our training and just began our practice.

It was beautiful, majestic.
Time to time, I miss those
days and my friend and the
Yosemite scenery. Thank you. 

저는 9년전쯤 요세미티를 가 보았지만, 별로 감명 받지 못했었는데,
그 곳에 숙박을 하면서 찬찬히 보는 요세미티는 많이 다른 것 같습니다.

9년전에는, 샌프란시스코에서 아침 6시에,  버스, 기차, 버스를 이용하여 요세미티 관광하고
다시 역순으로 샌프란시스코 피어39로 밤 12시경  돌아오는 코스였는데, 계절이
여름이다보니, 요세미티에서 오픈 카를 타고 설명을 들으면서 한시간여를
관광하는 것이 너무 힘들었었지요 (더워서...) 그래서, 남들이 좋다고 하는 요세미티의
진가를 잘 몰랐던 것 같습니다.

기회가 되면, 한번 더 가보고 싶습니다.

That's right Dr. Gae. If you have chance to visit the Yosemite,
you should stay a few days and hit the hiking trails, then you will come away
with the feeling that you just watched the movie "Sound of music".
Visiting Yosemite like what you have done is not any better than just looking at the tourism posters.
They say over 90 % of visitors do what you have done.
I hope you will go back to see the Yosemite again.

이곳은 저희 동네서 150 마일 정도, 3 시간 운전 거리라 자주가보는데.
자주가도 실증이 않나는곳이지요.

한때는 딸애가, 여기 공원에서 스페인어 통역관 겸 거기 무슨 연구실에서 한여름 일해서,
 escorted tour를 다녀온 기억이있지요.
집 옷장에 아직도 그 애가 입든 요세미티 공원 직원용 표시가 붙은 녹색 잠바가있어 
집에서 막 일할때  입고 다닙니다. 

이 공원 뒤에 산있는데, (Tuolumne Meadows 라는데)  눈녹을때 가면 들꽃등 좀다른 경관을 보게되지요.
조형 말씀대로 이곳은 며칠 둘러봐야, 그 공원의 다양성을 알게되는것 같어요.

여행은 고생을 하면서해야 기억에 남는데,
여기 커리 빌리지에 30 여년전 가서 며칠 자고왓는데,
눈속에서 덜덜 떨면서 애들 데리고 화장실 찾어간기억이 역역합니다.

이곳에 가보시려는 분 연락하시요.
저도 덩다라 한번 더가보고 싶으니 말이지요.
5 월이 제일 좋은 계절. 눈이 녹고 폭포가 거창하고, 산에 들꽃이 막 나오고..

Once you are in the park, reservations may be placed at any Tour & Activity Desk or by calling x1240 from any house phone.
To make reservations prior to your arrival in the Park, please call (209) 372-4FUN (4386).
Reservations can be made up to seven days in advance.

Fares vary according to where you are going based on the list above. The most expensive route is the valley to the Tuolumne Lodge at $14.50 one-way and $23 round trip. Any other partial destination is less.

Dining recommendation!
While in Tuolumne, drive down to the "Whoa Nellie Deli" at the Mobil Station in Lee Vining! You'll be glad you did.

The Tuolumne Meadow(s) area of Yosemite National Park is quite different from the valley and Wawona.
It's the high country, with an altitude of 8,500 at it's lowest point.

Nearby Tioga Pass, the eastern gate of the park is at the 10,000 foot elevation and
is the highest elevation you can attain by car.
By comparison, the valley and Wawona areas are at the 4,000 foot elevation.

It is quite a bit colder here, and weather patterns are different as well.
It rains more in Tuolumne, as it is situated closer to the east slope of the Sierra Nevada.
In years past the mosquitoes were worse, but that seems to have been lessened for some reason that has excaped me.
Bear activity is much higher here.
Bears are very active in the campground and all along the Lyell Fork of the Tuolumne River in the Lyell Canyon.

Tuolumne Meadow is just that; an enormous meadow,
very beautiful, but even more so in the spring with the wild flowers.

Highway 120 goes through the area, a paved road in very good condition.

There are very few services in Tuolumne, the basics, really.
During the summer, which runs on average from mid-June to mid-September,
there's a campground, small grocery store, grill, post office, small gas station open 24 hours (automated) and visitor center.

There's also a year-round ranger station and seasonal High Sierra Camp with restaurant.
It's the center of the universe for those embarking on long backpacking trips to Glenn Aulin, Vogelsang, and Donahue Pass along the John Muir Trail and Pacific Crest Trail.

Although the Tioga Pass Road (as it is also called) is open from just before Memorial Day to well into October or November,
services are available only during summer.

This is an area where you can find solitude very easily.
With only a leisurely stroll north or south along the Tuolumne River,
one can find a spot along the river bank and be very private. Swim, fish, or just sit and stare at the sky...

우리도 Tioga Pass로해서 East Entrance까지 나갔다가 다시 뒤돌아 
Tuolumne Meadow에 와서 차를 세워 놓고 Tuluomne River를 끼고
John Muir Trail을 3-4마일 걸었습니다.
들꽃은 없었지만 산딸기나무 아래 곰 발자국과 곰이 누고 간 똥을 보았지요.
참 idylic하고 평화로운 들과 산길,
흐르는 냇물소리에 귀 기우리며
솔잎 덮힌 오솔길을 말소리도 나즉히 속삭이며 걸었습니다.
또 가서 캠핑하면서 놀고싶은 곳입니다.
