The movie, " the man standing next" is a hit in Korea. In U. S.A., the number of movie theaters
showing it is increasing. It was breathtaking to watch it. All actors did an excellent job to act
like a real figure at that time. It was full of suspense leading to the death of President Park. And
most of all, the movie revealed the facts without any hesitation. I was impressed with the revelation
of the work of C.I.A.
CIA found "Iago" another intelligence that Park was running secretly while chasing Park's Secret
Swiss bank account. The head of KCIA did not know. Carter administration that advocated human
rights more than any other administration was determined to end Park's regime. A Korean professor
acted on behalf of C.I.A. bugged the Bluehouse(Park's office). CIA agents were busy to express the
U.S.'s negative feeling's about Park to opposition leaders and the head of KCIA. The movie showed
how well the touch of CIA's brush works
The assassin of former KCIA director interviewed with 시사저널 recently and it did not show
any evidence that 차지철 competed with 김재규 to kill 김형욱 as the movie depicted.
I post it for your reference.

Walking out of the theater, I told my wife, " You know what, 김재규, perhaps, saved a
few millions of lives in 부산 and 마산". In the movie, 차지철 said to Park, " In Cambodia,
they killed 2-3 million. Why don't we do that." when 김재규 was reporting the status of 부-마 사태.
Park was obviously corrupted and 차지철 was a greedy son of a beech.
김재규 knew U.S. did not want Park to be in power.
Park betrayed him even though he took care of 김형욱.
The fate of former KCIA heads had ended when they had done the crucial
bad acts that helped Park to get over the crises. 김재규 was threatened and angered at that point.
I think he was compelled to do something to remove Park from the presidency, but
he did not know exactly how. In the end, the half-cooked coup had failed him badly.
It became Chun's opportunity.

The second link above (시사저널; 2020.2.8. 김형욱은 내가 죽였다.) is more interesting to me.
In my early days in the U.S., I read the book by 김형욱 (written by another person in Korean language)
about himself, 516, and other political events in Korea, eventually leading to his escaping to the U.S.
Not like any other books or stories, Kim's book left a deep impression in my brain.
It was a truly interesting book. 김형욱 really believed that President Park was a communist
and, actually, Park might have been a communist at a certain time because of his family background.
박정희 eventually might have turned into an anti-communist.
A communist or not, he worked for South Korea. It didn't really matter.
Even if he was a communist, he would not have sold South Korea to the North Korean regime
because he knew that he, certainly, would have been killed by the North regime.
He was smart enough to know, not like the current leftists and the Moon's people in South Korea.
President Park was a smart guy, smart enough to bring South Korea into the world stage.
Thinking back, any ordinary Korean politicians could not have achieved such a miraculous task.
You can see "how and why" when you look into and compare him to all the dictators of the world.
I can justify the assassination of 김형욱. Sorry to say if Kim hears me now.
It was a good thing that he was not a part of Park's regime.
If he was a part of it, South Korea might have had a different tragic path.
Nobody can tell what would happen to South Korea if Park was not killed by another Kim.
There might be a chance that Park might have gone into the routine corruption.
You never know !!
