(New York Times: Jim Mattis , Defense Secretary, Resigns in Rebuke of Trump’s Worldview)
Does U.S. need NATO? Trump No, Generals Yes.
Are U.S. troops needed in Syria and Afghanistan? Trump No, Generals Yes.
Should U.S. leave from Iran nuclear deal? Trump Yes, Generals No.
World order has changed a lot since the Cold War ended, but not much of Generals’ idea.
U.S. is energy independent nation and we can live without oil from mideast. Having said
that, the sole purpose of troop deployed in mideast is for Israel. U.S. has to rethink the idea
that Israel’s enemy is U.S.’s. It should be more flexible. U.S. citizens must be aware of
rapidly growing budget deficit and generals wasting a lot of money for the depolyment of
U.S. troops in foreign countries to engage in unnecessary wars.

Trump’s approval rate among Republicans is 89%. Mattis’s resignation may become a turning point.
The U.S. took over South Vietnam from France, ignoring the people’s strong
resistance against foreign invasion. Even Churchill didn't want to take
care of her. In 1975, Vietnam successfully defended their country against
the strongest country in the world. U.S. troops came back home after wasting
billions of dollars and thousands of lives. Nixon could not fund the war without
printing money, so he declared to abandon the gold standard.
In the early 1980s during Carter administration, U.S. started to get involved in Afghanistan.
CIA aided the Taliban to fight against socialist government and Soviet troops. Taliban won
and Soviet retreated. Then, US abandon the Taliban. Gulf war against Iraq by father Bush
caused by Sadaam’s Quwait invasion was successful. Bush decided to move the troop to Saudi
Arabia. That made Vin Laden mad and carried out 9.11... Son Bush invaded Iraq and toppled
Sadaam. Nation building failed. Sadaam’s old guard became Al Quida that eventually transformed
to be ISIS.
U.S. troops are still stationed in Afghanistan and Syria. U.S. involvement in Iraq has not ended.
Again, billions of dollars and thousands of lives wasted without any positive outcome. Rather,
war efforts have been showing ridiculous failures. If there is any, destruction of stockpiles of weapons
will make defense industry going and troops are getting the experience of real war. For that, taxpayers’
money is not worth it.
