SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) — Lydia Ko outlasted Ariya Jutanugarn and Mirim Lee to win the Marathon Classic on Sunday for her fourth LPGA Tour victory of the season.
The top-ranked Ko made a 10-foot birdie putt on the fourth extra hole after Jutanugarn and Lee ran into trouble.
Also the 2014 winner, Ko closed with a 2-under 69 at Highland Meadows to match Jutanugarn and Lee at 14-under 270.
The 19-year-old New Zealander has 14 LPGA Tour titles, also winning consecutive events in South California — the second the major ANA Inspiration — and later in Arkansas. She's 4-1 in playoffs, with the loss coming to Brooke Henderson this year in the KPMG Women's PGA.
Ko missed a 5-footer birdie putt on the third extra hole, sending the trio back to the 18th tee for the final time. Jutanugarn had chances to win on the first two playoff holes, missing birdie putts of 14 and 8 feet.
Ko opened with rounds of 68, 66 and 67 to enter the day three strokes behind Hyo Joo Kim. Ko birdied three of the first six holes, while Kim had three bogeys on the stretch. Ko birdied the par-4 ninth, bogeyed the par-3 14th and 16th and finished with two pars.
Lee shot a 65, bogeying the 18th after making birdies on Nos. 13, 15, 16 and 17.
Jutanugarn had a 68, reaching 14 under with an eagle on 17. The long-hitting Thai player won three straight events in May.
Kim followed her third-round 64 with a 73 to finish a stroke back.
Stacy Lewis was fifth at 11 under after a 71. Born in the area, the Texan is winless in 56 starts since taking the North Texas LPGA Shootout in June 2014 for her 11th tour victory. She has 11 runner-up finishes during the drought and 24 overall.
Alison Lee, tied for second with Ko entering the round, had a 73 to fall into a tie for sixth with Beatriz Recari (68) at 10 under.
Brittany Lang, coming off a playoff victory over Anna Nordqvist in the U.S. Women's Open, had a 74 to tie for 24th at 3 under. Nordqvist also was 3 under after a 70.
.....
It was interesting to note that three Asiatic women were battling it out.
It took number 4 sudden death hole playoff to decide the winner.
They all seemed tired, and all had chances to win.
In the end it was Lydia who was able to maintain the higher level of concentration to the finish to claim the trophy.

Thanks for the comment! Dr. Lee!
Lydia Ko has been such a dominant player for past 2 years
and she won 5 times last year and 4 times this year so far.
When she plays LPGA tournament, she almost always plays as
contender. Her records of Major this year was one win(ANA
Inspiration),one loss at playoff(KPMG Women's PGA Champion
ship),and one tie for 3rd(US Open).
One other great golf news today was playoff loss of Si Woo
Kim(21)in Barbasol Championship of PGA. He also lost at 4th
playoff hole by Aaron Baddeley.
Certainly Si Woo Kim is a promising young Korean male golfer.KJ

It is tough and even not fair somewhat to compare between
these 2 great golfers head to head, because of different
gender,era,and competition level.
However
Both players are great enough to me considering one of the
greatest golfers in respective leagues by sure.
Out of all stats above, number of wins in first 81 tournaments
(21 for Tiger and 14 for Lydia) might be most significant stat
to me.
And also
Lydia has to prove a lot to become the level of other great
LPGA players like Annika Sorenstam and it could be a real good
chance to me in future. KJ
The rich gets richer!
World Rankings No.1 Lydia Ko won Marathon Classic of LPGA
at playoff with Mirim Lee and A.Jutanugarn. This win is her
14th LPGA win at tender age of 19 and 4th win this year.
Different players made stumblings in different times.Started
with Hyo Joo Kim,who was leader of 3 strokes after 54 holes,
but she made 3 boggies in 1st 6 holes and never recovered from it.
Lydia Ko made un-Lydia like mistakes in back 9,boggies at 14th
and 16th and ended up 3 way playoff, however her mental strength
made her champion again.
Let us give big hands to Champion Lydia Ko. KJ
