Last evening, I watch the Oscars too, just because of a Korean movie, "Minari".

So glad I was that American movie artists and movie fans seemed to like Korean people.

I guess they are not dirty politicians but pure artists who go by love and feeling of humanity.

Also, I was moved that Korean movies get such respect on American screens.

I was going to write a review on the "Minari" but, now, it seems to be too late.

Here, I place a very short review of mine on the movie.

Has anyone thought about what's the underlying moral of this movie story?

Here, I believe, "Minari" means "Korean immigrants" in America (or anywhere else).

The plants can grow anywhere and prosper regardless of the earth on which they sprout.

This particular phrase comes clearly when the grandma explains to the young boy about minari

at a small minari patch near the stream. How many of you remember the phrase and the scene?

As I was watching the movie, I was realizing that the phrase was the basis of the whole thing.

When the movie ended, knowing what I had been myself in America,

I became emotional, and I couldn't help but to feel warmth and wetness in my eyes.

I wish all Korean Americans, even some American audiences, felt the same like I did.

The survival of the family, the enduring love in the challenging life between "he and she",

"the grandma", and the young children are the symbols of the "Minari".

I saw the movie a week ago in the movie theater. The stupid tears keep swelling up 

in my eyes, but I did not know why. By the time I was thinking that it would show 

something exciting, it was over.

On the way back home, I realized that how lucky I am as an American immigrant.

I was given the job that I wanted. I did not feel the struggle that they had in the movie.

America was too generous to me. But the movie was telling me that other Korean 

Americans were not so easy to navigate a new world. 
 

When I was watching the movie, I couldn't quite understand that why the husband 

chose farming instead of a merchant in the city. In 1970s, Korean American immigrants

were selling wigs, clothes, vegetables, delis, etc in the cities. They made good money 

and their living standard was much better than what it was in Korea. Almost 

all of them were college graduates and some of them were PhDs. In 1991, it was not so easy

to make good money in the city. And the gap between America and Korea had been narrowed.

It became harder for newcomers to succeed in America. I think that's why they had to seek

opportunities elsewhere. 
 

I think 윤여정 is an actress who understands what humanity is. 
She says and acts exactly what she feels. Humanity is universal.

Americans see the humanity that Koreans present. Hollywood 

knew who is the best.
