"As you slide down the banister of life, may the splinters never point the wrong way."
This is supposed to be an Irish blessing, sometimes mentioned in the wedding ceremony.
Maybe, it should be said in the graduation ceremony as well.
It almost sounds like a joke, yet it shows how tough life ahead can be.
Those splinters that were pointing the wrong way...
How many of them have we met on the way?
And how many of those pointing the right way, have we passed without even knowing?
I am glad my "sliding down the banister of life" is almost done and over.
If there are to be splinters on the remaining trails of mine, there won't be many.
And I shall "slowly" slide down the banister of life and hit some splinters on the way.
Having had enough of them and having learned how to take them,
it won't hurt as bad as it used to.... One of the blessings of senility.
