Greetings, We are proud and delighted to share with you that members of Congress have expressed special statements on April 21, 2015. Their message was one and clear: Prime Minister Abe must apologize for the past wrongdoings of Imperial Japan, prior to his joint session address. The signatures of you and 7,600 other petitioners were the driving force behind this milestone. Your participation made it possible for members of Congress to urge Mr. Abe to address his historically ignorant, humanly offensive remarks and actions in the past. Furthermore, major media outlets have recently joined in criticizing Mr. Abe's historical revisionism and lack of repentance for Japanese government's past crimes against humanity. And today, April 23rd, even more members of Congress have co-signed and delivered a letter to the Japanese Ambassador to the U.S., Mr. Kenichiro Sasae. A collective letter, led by Representative Honda (CA-17) and Representative Israel (NY-03), was signed by a total of 24 members of Congress from both sides of the aisle. In the letter, these members of Congress urge Prime Minister Abe to formally reaffirm and validate the conclusions of Murayama Statement and Kono Statement, to accept his government's historical responsibilities--so that the United States, Japan, and Korea can make progress toward peace and prosperity, upon the foundation of healing and reconciliation. Dozens of citizen activists from across the country will gather to rally in front of the capital hill to further address this issue at 9AM on April 29th, the day of Mr. Abe's joint session address.
