It reminds me of my somewhat different perception of WWII through my unique relationships with a few European friends/colleagues who became so close enough to make us feel them almost family members through years. Indeed it took more than a decade for them to talk/reminiscent their memories as young children, too painful to put on the tongue, to share with us.
Two world renown professors of Univ Hamburg to whom I learned on vascular malformations, gave me an idea on how such horrible thing could be carried on or at least consented by the world--most intelligent Germans. Especially after I visited three separate Polish friends/groups of Warsaw, Krakow, and Bydgoszcz Univ, I learned about such mind-boggling Jewish issues through WWII more thoroughly.
Indeed I did not know Warsaw upheaval is different from the Jewish ghetto upheaval, for example. I tell you how much we don't know. There are a lot of untold sagas I learned!

The Great War, World War I was the worst war since human civilization began.
It was notorious for its barbarian character. The use of poison gases was rampant.
They dug the ground on the front line and stayed there for months. It became a
trench and the soldier's feet got frost bites and infections. There were no apparent
winners, but Germans could not put up with it any longer. They asked for the armistice.
The allies and the enemies sat down in Versailles palace in Paris on 11th of November,
1918. The ally nations demanded an enormous amount of money to be paid for the
compensation. German economy collapsed because of the astronomical inflation.
The anger grew among Germans. The opportunistic Hitler came along and advocating,
"German race is the superior race to any other races in the world". It is the catchphrase
of the Nazi. They rose up for the revenge behind Hitler. World War II began.
What Germans got was not the revenge but the utter destruction as shown in the movie.
*Before World War II, World War I was called The Great War. November 11 is
commemorated as veteran's day. In Korea, it is Pepero(빼빼로)day. Koreans exchange
chocolate dipped cookie sticks resembling 11.
