Like yourself, he has been a truly honest, genuine full time research academician to this date.
He was made a honorary member of our SNUCMAA of North America in 2004
and once gave a lecture at our annual scientific session and convention as well.
I was somewhat moved by your appreciation of his sincere high quality lecture even though
his targeted audience was lay people, which is rare in this age.
I said to myself, "It takes one academician to appreciate another."
Among other things there is one thing in common between you two.
My friend has been an extensive world traveler for decades just like yourself.

You make me feel humbled, Dr. HJ, but honestly, not many people would be able to appreciate his talk as much as I did on how much he spent the time and efforts to deliver such highly professional information to the group of plain laypersons properly. Indeed, within a few minutes I started to listen to his lecture/video, I noticed/enjoyed his superb veteran skill to deliver/illustrate such hard boring topic in easy (?) comprehensible way, sharing such rich data/substances with no mistake. It is particularly difficult for the person like me or himwith foreign background - 과부설음 과부만 안다! –.
Indeed, the hardest thing to prepare the lecture to such ‘un-professional(?)’ group in my experience is how to adjust/lower the eye level to meet to the audience’s level to deliver what we intend effectively using their familiar expression/terms without losing the essence or distorting the facts- 배운게 도둑질이라고 평생 해온것이 이것뿐! -. So, I also spent so much time to learn, listening seriously to the colleagues known as the best speakers as well. So I enjoyed his lecture more than anyone else!
And Dr. Kang showed his finesse with confidence through this lecture, as you correctly perceived.

By the way, HJ, I kept his video separately in my file I review regularly!
I was indeed impressed to his deep knowledge in the immunology- wonder whether he started his career as an immunologist ?!- I still struggle to keep up with such advanced immunology though I no longer get involved to active research on the tramsplant immunology, the opposite side of the cancer immunology more or less, so that his hour-long lecture was so refreshing to me, pirking up my decaying brain cells.
Hope I would have a chance to meet him in future!!!
Extending my admiration to him once again.

Dr. Chil-Yong (Yong) Kang, PhD, DSc, FRSC, is a molecular virologist and Professor of Virology in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario in Canada (1992-Present).
He carried out his postgraduate studies at McMaster University where he received a Ph.D. in virology under the supervision of Professor Ludvik Prevec (1968-1971) and his postdoctoral training under Professor Howard Temin at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1971-1974).
Dr. Kang went on to serve as a Professor of Virology in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas (1974-1982), Professor and Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine (1982-1992), and Dean of Science at the University of Western Ontario (1992-1999).
His research in molecular virology includes the development of viral-specific antiviral therapeutic agents and efficacious vaccines against various human viral diseases including AIDS, hepatitis and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Previously, he developed a second generation vaccine against hepatitis B virus and an experimental vaccine against HIV/AIDS by using state-of-the-art technologies of genetic engineering and biotechnology. Recently, his Phase I human clinical trial of SAV001 prophylactic HIV vaccine, based on genetically modified killed-whole HIV-1, was successfully completed and preparing for the Phase II trial. Dr. Kang has published 135 peer reviewed research papers and 149 scientific proceedings and abstracts in the fields of virology, Immunology, molecular biology, and medicine. He holds nine international biotechnology patents that cover over 70 countries.
Dr. Kang has received numerous prizes such as the Award of Excellence of the University of Ottawa (1991), Gold Medal for Ilchun Lecture (1998), Ho-Am Prize in Medicine (1999), the Order of Korea in Science and Technology (2002), the McMaster University Distinguished Alumni Award for 2007, the Lifetime Achievement Award from University of Western Ontario (2009), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), selected as a Korean-Canadian Diaspora to Canadian Society by Canadian Government (2013) and the Scientist of the Year Award from the Korean Federation of Science and Technology (2013). Dr. Kang was elected as a Life-time Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada Academy of Science (1993) and an elected Life-time Member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (1997).
He continues to serve as a grant selection committee member for various federal granting agencies in Canada and the United States. He is a member of the Board of Directors of numerous research institutions and foundations. Dr. Kang also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Virology, Journal of Infectious Diseases, Virus Research, Virology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Human Virology and Retrovirology, and Canadian Medical Association Journal.

Of note, Dr. Kang worked 3 years as postdoctoral fellow under Professor Howard Temin, 1971-74,
discoverer of reverse transcriptase, Nobel Prize winner in 1975, who recognized Dr. Kang's
contribution to the discovery at the ceremony.
Howard Martin Temin (December 10, 1934 – February 9, 1994) was a US geneticist and virologist. So he was also at Madison for his postdoc! No wonder! Impressive!!!

As I mentioned him in this space before, 강칠용 박사 is
an internationally well-recognized virologist at the University of
Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada.
He presented this educational lecture on behalf of Korean-Canadians.
He also talks about his own vaccine making which utilizes different
technology and has proven to produce the highest immune response
and the highest antibody level and may well be the answer if mRNA vaccine
does not control variants. However, his vaccine may take another full year
for its distribution.
CY Kang is one of my high school classmates, a close friend, and golfing buddy.
