We Respect the Will of the People

Democratic nominee for Senate from Ohio

I had the privilege to concede this race to J.D. Vance. Because the way this country operates is that you lose an election, you concede. You respect the will of the people. We can’t have a system where if you win, it’s a legitimate election, and if you lose, someone stole it. That is not how we can move forward in the United States. …

“I’m concerned that this country, as we move forward, it may get worse before it gets better. But we need good people who are going to honor the institutions of this country.”

The U.S. midterm election is over. Even though vote counting is still going on in many places,

the result is almost clear. Republicans will be the majority in the House of Representatives and

Democrats will have the Senate. But the margins that GOP will have in the House is far

beyond the expectation of the party. Historically, when the sitting President is not popular, the party

that hold the power loses a lot of seats in midterm election. But Biden and Democrats did much

better than expected. In particular, many Trump sponsored candidates lost. MAGA campaign

and election deniers are losing the steam and hurting the GOP. They rallied around Trump, but failed

to attract the voters beyond their own turf. It means Americans want to preserve the democracy.

Luckily, Americans are finding decency again after the madness of Trumpism. As always, when

faced in crisis, American people choose the right path to get out of trouble and keep the democracy going.

I am so glad that we can trust the American electoral system again.
