그런데 러시아 앞에서 주춤하는 나라는 아랍에미리트·사우디아라비아와 같은 아랍국뿐 만이 아니다. 동맹 협약을 맺지 않았지만, 지구상 그 어떤 나라보다 미국과 친밀한 이스라엘도 러시아의 심기를 건드리려고 하지 않는다. 러시아의 우크라이나 침공을 비판하는 대열에 들어섰고, 우크라이나 유대인을 수용하고, 전쟁 피해자를 피한 인도적 지원은 아끼지 않지만, 우크라이나 편에 서서 전쟁을 돕지는 않는다. 우크라이나 젤렌스키 대통령이 유대인이지만, 유대인 동질감을 이스라엘 국익과 맞바꾸려 하지 않는다. 국가 생존을 위협하는 시리아를 러시아가 장악하고 있기 때문이다. 전통적인 친이스라엘 정책에서 벗어나려는 진보 좌파, 고립을 선호하는 우파가 득세하는 미국에 안보를 맡길 수 없는 이스라엘의 고민이 녹아 있다.

What Putin was saying must be a typical lie by a communist.

Putin is dying to say that they are doing very well despite western sanctions.

They survive by lying and cheating !!

Well, let them have one of the best periods of prosperity and peace in their history.

It may be partly true. But it is quite possible because oil and natural gas 

export is the main source of Russuan foreign currency i.e. dollars.  Ironically

the war caused trememdous rise of oil and natural gas prices. So did inflow

of dollars to Russia. Evidently the value of Russian ruble is back to prewar level. 

That's why Volodimir Zelensky, Ukraine president is asking E.U. snactions 

Russian oil and natural gas. It will certainly Putin back to the wall but the

economic impact on E.U. countries will be too much to bear. 

The sanctions put on countries ruled by evil minded dictators are proven to be

ineffective. North Korea is a good example. The sanctions are applied to Iran,

Venzuela, Cuba and Myanmar. They are just fine as far as the regimes are concerned.

Then why do they do sanctions even though it has been ineffective? 
No body knows. But I am pretty sure that the sanctions against NK

is to "save face" of U.S. who is happy with "balanced division" in

Korean penninsula, that Japan, China and Russia like. Perhaps, every

sanction is done to "save face" for the public who want the justice

that punishs bad guys.
